The Journey
Uganda Active - The name is program! The Kasenda Crater Lakes are discovered on foot or by mountain bike. On the program is also Queen Elizabeth National Park and Buhoma/Bwindi, gorilla trekking in Ruhija and bathing in the lake of Bunyonyi.
In the morning the drive goes to the crater lake region in the west of Uganda. The car ride is varied, it goes past villages, tea plantations, and forests. South of Fort Portal lie more than 40 crater lakes. The charming, slightly hilly landscape can be explored on hikes, with mountain bikes, or with the moped. The visit of a tea plantation can be organized upon request. Accommodation: lodge or bandas.
Hiking to 9 crater lakes. A local guide accompanies you on the all-day hike. Your path also leads you through settlements. Your guide shows you what life looks like in a Ugandan village, you learn how a family lives, what they grow in their fields, and what the daily meals look like. On the hike, you will notice that almost every crater lake shimmers in a different color in the sunlight. In some lakes, swimming can be safely done, so don't forget swimming things. Lunch is served in a lunchbox. Accommodation: Lodge or Bandas.
Today they have the choice, either cycling in the hilly landscape or a hike in the nearby Ruwenzori mountains. The all-day bike tour is conducted with English mountain bikes, helmet and drinking bottles are provided. The guide who knows the area very well and who is also a bicycle mechanic is included in the price. Alternatively, a hike to the hot springs at the foot of the Ruwenzori massif is possible. For this, you drive by car for about 1 hour to the starting point of the hike. Don't forget your swimwear! Those who want to dive deeper into the life of the Ugandan village population can alternatively book the village life program. You help with the fieldwork and then cook a typical Ugandan lunch/dinner together. Please indicate which activity you would like to do when booking. Accommodation: Lodge or Bandas.
After breakfast, the journey goes to your first national park in Uganda and you cross the equator for the first time. The park has few large trees, it is dominated by the candelabra euphorbias, a type of spurge. Lunch break with lunch package in the park. In the afternoon, a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel is scheduled, a must for every nature lover. With the boat, the two-hour trip goes along the shore. There, hippos and crocodiles sunbathe, many herons and kingfishers search for food in the shore area. In the late afternoon, you slowly drive back through the park to the lodge and may see a few elephants "grazing" in the evening. Accommodation: Simba Lodge, among others.
In the early morning, you set off for a morning safari in the park (attention, dress warmly, in the morning it is cool and you drive with an open roof). We will try to track down lions. Buffalo and various species of antelopes graze peacefully in the morning light. After the lunch break, you continue into the Ishasha part of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. In good weather, the lions climb the trees there. After the short detour in this part of the park, the drive goes high up into the mountains in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accommodation: Camping or Bandas.
Today you explore on a full-day tour with the bike along the road the nature of the national park, it goes often steep uphill to then immediately fall steeply again. Monkeys will watch you from the trees while cycling. Accommodation: Camping or Bandas.
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
Getting up early is again on the agenda today. You drive to the starting point of the Gorilla Tour to the headquarters of the park administration. At the meeting point, you receive tips from rangers on how to interact with our nearest relatives. The way to the animals can take 2-4 hours depending on where the animals are staying that day. However, since they are under constant observation, it is only a matter of time before you reach them. Once you have reached the gorilla family, you have 1 hour for observations, for photographing, or filming. After that, the animals are given their peace again. For such a unique experience, one gladly accepts these hardships. The afternoon is at your own disposal. Accommodation: Camping or Bandas.
After breakfast, the journey continues to Lake Bunyonyi. There you can relax in tents or in rooms with lake view. The lake is considered free of schistosomiasis, i.e., swimming is allowed. Whoever wants can explore the lake with a dugout canoe or kayak. You will stay 2 days in the resort, enough time to relax. Accommodation: Camping, Overland Resort.
You leave the lake after breakfast and reach Lake Mburo National Park after a half-day drive. Only here can you see eland antelopes or zebras in Uganda. The park is managed by the local village population. Partially, their cattle herds are allowed to graze at the park boundary. Accommodation: Rwakobo Lodge.
After a coffee/tea, it goes on foot with a ranger in the early morning for the animal tracking. The hike lasts about 1.5 hours, after which it goes back to the lodge for breakfast. In the afternoon you can take another safari by bike or by car. Accommodation: Rwakobo Lodge.
In the early morning, you drive back to Entebbe. This is a long day of driving, the roads are well developed, and we make several stops for you along the way. Relax in the car. You cross the equator one more time. There you have the opportunity to buy souvenirs during our coffee stop. In the early evening, you reach Entebbe. Depending on the departure time, we drive you after a group dinner directly to the airport or to a lodge (for departure times the next morning).
