Uganda

This uganda safari covers 13 days across Uganda's top national parks, from Murchison Falls in the north to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the southwest.

Days 1–13

Entebbe – Arrival & Welcome

Your guide meets you at Entebbe Airport and transfers you to your accommodation. Depending on arrival time, an optional excursion to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Entebbe Botanical Garden, or Entebbe Zoo is available to book. This is your first evening in Uganda before the uganda safari begins in earnest tomorrow.

Entebbe – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls NP

After breakfast the group departs for Murchison Falls National Park, passing through Kampala and stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — Uganda's only wild white rhino refuge, managed by Rhino Fund Uganda. This is the start of the murchison falls national park tour section of the itinerary.

Murchison Falls – Game Drive & Nile Boat Safari

An early morning game drive explores the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park where elephants, giraffes, antelope and lion are commonly spotted. After lunch at Paraa Safari Lodge, a Nile boat safari travels to the base of the falls, revealing hippos, crocodiles and black-and-white kingfishers along the banks. An optional hike to the top of the falls is available.

Murchison Falls NP – Queen Elizabeth National Park

A long transfer day heads south along the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains toward Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda. On clear days, snow-capped peaks above 5,000 m are visible across the Eastern African Rift Valley. A brief photo stop at the Equator marks the crossing into the southern hemisphere on this uganda wildlife tour.

Queen Elizabeth NP – Safari & Kazinga Channel

Morning game drives through Queen Elizabeth National Park reveal tree-climbing lions, large elephant herds and towering euphorbia forests. An afternoon boat ride on the Kazinga Channel brings hippos, Nile crocodiles, buffalo and over 600 bird species — including the African fish eagle — within easy viewing distance.

Kyambura Wildlife Reserve & Ishasha Wilderness

An early start leads to the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve, part of Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda, for chimpanzee trekking uganda through a forested gorge. Good footwear is advised as trails can be slippery. The afternoon moves to Ishasha Wilderness in the southern sector of the park, famous for its tree-climbing lions resting in fig trees.

Ishasha Wilderness – Bwindi Impenetrable NP

A morning game drive in Ishasha precedes the drive to Buhoma, the northern gateway of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is the beginning of the bwindi gorilla trek section of the uganda safari. The afternoon is free to rest before the next day's gorilla tracking.

Questions about the tour itinerary?

Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.

Bwindi – Gorilla Trekking Uganda

This is the centerpiece of the tour. After a briefing at park headquarters, small groups of 8 visitors plus rangers set out for gorilla trekking uganda inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Treks typically last 2–6 hours through dense rainforest before reaching a habituated gorilla family. The permitted hour with the gorillas is the defining moment of any gorilla trekking africa experience. A picnic lunch is served on the trail; the afternoon is free for an optional cultural dance performance by local youth.

Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast the group drives to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Uganda's most scenic highland lakes, arriving by early afternoon. The lake is bilharzia-free, making it safe for swimming and canoeing. An optional boat trip to the lake's many small islands can be arranged. This is a relaxed stop between the gorilla safari uganda and the final wildlife days ahead.

Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park

The journey descends from the cool highland forest to the warmer lowlands and Lake Mburo National Park — Uganda's only park with zebra, impala and eland antelope in one place. The park is community-managed, and you may see zebras grazing peacefully alongside local cattle. Keep an eye out for the rare finfoot waterbird, a relative of the cormorant found almost nowhere else in Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park – Full Day

A pre-breakfast bush walk with an armed ranger explores the interior of Lake Mburo National Park on foot, following game trails through acacia woodland. The afternoon offers a choice of a further game drive or a boat safari on the lake itself — an excellent opportunity to spot hippos, crocodiles and the osprey-rich shoreline on this uganda safari tour.

Lake Mburo National Park – Entebbe

After a late breakfast, the group drives back to Entebbe, arriving in the evening. This transfer day marks the close of the main national park circuit. Time permitting, a stop in Kampala for a brief city visit can be arranged.

Mabamba Wetlands – Shoebill Search & Departure

A very early morning excursion leads to Mabamba Wetlands, an Important Bird Area just outside Entebbe where shoebill storks nest in shallow papyrus swamps. Small wooden boats explore the waterways to locate these prehistoric-looking birds. This is a fitting final activity for a uganda wildlife tour that has covered the full range of the country's natural habitats. Transfer to Entebbe Airport in the afternoon.
