Norway Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Visa is not necessary for citizens of many countries; EU/EFTA nationals can stay for up to 90 days. For other nationalities, a Schengen visa may be required. This must be applied for before the trip. The application can be done online or at the nearest Norwegian embassy. A visa cannot be issued upon arrival.
The Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) is the main international airport in Norway. From here, there are excellent connections to other cities. Alternatively, the airports in Bergen (BGO) and Stavanger (SVG) are recommended if your destination is in these regions. Oslo also offers a good connection to Public Transport.
The local currency is the Norwegian Krone (NOK). Credit cards are accepted in most shops and restaurants, but it is advisable to have some cash for smaller purchases. ATMs are widespread, and one can also use a travel credit card to save on fees.
No special vaccinations are required for entry into Norway, but standard vaccinations are advisable. A travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover unexpected costs in case of illness or injuries. Check your policies for necessary coverage before traveling.
For driving in Norway, you need a valid driver's license. An EU driver's license is recognized. If you stay longer, it may be advisable to present an international driver's license. Please also note that Norway has strict traffic rules, so drive carefully!
To stay mobile in Norway, you can buy a SIM card. They are usually available at airports, kiosks, and supermarkets. Popular providers are Telenor and Telia. Look for prepaid options, which are often cheaper for tourists.
