German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 183 days in Peru. However, the passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. If you wish to stay longer, you can apply for an extension on site. An entry permit is not available online.

The Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima is the best airport for international arrivals. It offers numerous connections to other cities in Peru. From Lima, you can easily reach popular travel destinations like Cusco and Arequipa. Plan enough time for the transfer, as traffic in Lima is often heavy.

The local currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). Credit cards are accepted in urban areas, but it is advisable to bring cash for rural areas and markets. ATMs are widely available, but be aware of fees. Smaller amounts should be paid in cash to get better prices.

Before traveling to Peru, it is recommended to get vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Yellow Fever. A travel insurance is also advisable, as it provides financial protection in case of emergencies. Inform yourself about medical facilities near your accommodations, should you need treatment abroad.

SIM cards can be easily purchased at airports, in mobile phone shops or supermarkets. Providers like Claro and Movistar offer prepaid plans. Bring your secret SIM card tool to replace your old card. Keep in mind that network coverage may vary in rural areas.
