A visa is generally required to travel to Venezuela. Most travelers must apply for a visa in advance, as it is not available upon arrival. Visit the website of the Venezuelan embassy or consulate in your country to get the latest information on the application process, as requirements may vary depending on nationality.
The Maiquetía airport (Simón Bolívar International Airport) in Caracas is the best transfer point for international flights. Due to the infrastructural challenges in other cities, it is advisable to travel from there with a 4x4 or transfer to other regions of Venezuela, especially for off-road adventures.
The local currency is the Bolívar. Credit cards are accepted in larger cities, but it is safest to bring cash as electronic payment methods are often unreliable. Plan to withdraw cash from local ATMs, but be aware of withdrawal fees and available limits.
Travel insurance and vaccinations are strongly recommended, particularly against hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever. Make sure your insurance covers all emergencies, including medical evacuations. Check the required vaccinations with your doctor or at a travel health clinic in a timely manner.
