Morocco Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Visa for Morocco: Most EU citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. For longer stays, you must apply for a visa before entry. Information can be found on the website of the Moroccan embassy or at your local consulate. Visas are not available on arrival or online, so plan ahead.

The best airport for international arrivals is Casablanca Airport (CMN), followed by Marrakech (RAK). Both offer good connections to many cities worldwide and are ideal starting points for off-road trips. Additionally, they are easily accessible by public transport, which facilitates onward travel.

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Credit cards are accepted in large cities and tourist areas, but it is advisable to carry cash, especially in rural areas. ATMs are widespread, but exchanging cash before a trip can save costs. Keep in mind the fluctuating fees of credit cards when paying fees.

Vaccinations are not mandatory, but Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is highly advisable to protect against medical emergencies and trip cancellations. Check that your insurance also covers off-road activities before you go.

To drive in Morocco you need a valid national driver's license that is in English or French. An international driver's license is advisable, but not mandatory. SIM cards are available in stores and at the airport. Local providers like INWI or Maroc Telecom offer good deals. Don't forget to present your ID for the purchase.
