Island Travel and Vacation – Good to know
Islands visa policy is straightforward for most travelers. Citizens of the EU, EFTA, and the Schengen Area do not need a visa to enter for up to 90 days. For other countries, it is important to apply for a visa online in advance. This can be done through the official website of the Icelandic immigration authorities. No visa is issued upon arrival.
The best airport for entering Iceland is Keflavik International Airport (KEF). It is located about 50 km from Reykjavik and offers numerous international connections. The airport has good transport links to the capital and to further adventures inland.
The local currency is the Icelandic króna (ISK). Many places accept credit cards, which is especially convenient, as cash is used less and less. However, it is advisable to have small amounts of cash for remote areas where card payment may not be available.
No special vaccinations are required for entry to Iceland. However, comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover potential medical costs that may arise during your off-road adventures. Please inform yourself in advance about the insurance coverage.
A national driver's license is sufficient for driving in Iceland, but an international driver's license may be recommended. SIM cards are available in most stores and at the airport. Do a price comparison between providers to find the best rates for your internet and phone needs.
