Albania Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Albania does not require a visa for most EU citizens if the stay is shorter than 90 days. However, Ukrainians, Georgians, and some other countries must apply for a visa. This can be done on the website of the Albanian Embassy or upon arrival. Check the current regulations in advance, as they can change. Keep your passport ready, which must be valid for at least 6 months after entry.
The airport Tirana (TIA) is the largest and most used airport in Albania. Most international flights land here. Alternatively, you can also consider the airports in Korça or Shkodra if you want to explore the region. From Tirana, there are numerous rental car and transportation options to the off-road travel destinations.
The currency in Albania is the Albanian Lek (ALL). While large cities and tourist areas often accept credit cards, it is advisable to carry cash for smaller shops, markets, and rural areas. ATMs are common, but always keep some cash on hand for emergencies, especially when traveling off-road.
Special vaccinations are not strictly required for entry into Albania, however, a travel insurance that covers medical emergencies is strongly recommended. Before traveling, you should consult your doctor, especially for outdoor activities. Make sure that your insurance also includes off-road adventures.
An international driver's license is recommended for driving in Albania, even though a national driver's license is often sufficient. You can buy SIM cards at the airports or in local shops. Providers like Vodafone and ALBtelecom are widespread. Comparison offers are useful to find the best value for money.
