MOTORCYCLE-TOURS · THAILAND
Enduro tour through Thailand and Laos covers 14 days on a Honda CRF250 or KLX250 for groups of 1–8 expert riders.
The Journey
This 14-day enduro tour through Thailand and Laos is built for expert riders wanting sustained offroad riding on a Honda CRF250 or KLX250. Starting at the OVERCROSS base camp in Mae Malai, north of Chiang Mai, the route heads north to Chiang Rai, through the Golden Triangle to the Mekong border, then into Laos for river crossings and mountain villages ending at Packbeng on the Mekong. After UNESCO Luang Prabang, the tour returns across the Thai border and winds south via Phayao, an elephant camp, and hot springs at Chiang Dao before closing in Chiang Mai.
Thailand
Three days of northern Thailand riding start at the OVERCROSS Mae Malai base camp north of Chiang Mai — from warm-up loops on local gravel roads to the first river crossings and Chiang Rai on this 14-day enduro tour.
Your 14-day enduro tour through Thailand and Laos begins at Chiang Mai International Airport. We pick you up and drive 30 km north to the OVERCROSS bungalow base in Mae Malai. After settling in, there's time to visit a local market for exotic fruits and dishes. The evening brings the first beer and a welcome BBQ at the base camp — one of nine comfortable rooms is yours for the night.
After breakfast everyone picks up their Honda CRF250 or KLX250 for the first time. Today is a day for getting comfortable — narrow winding asphalt roads and gravel roads through the landscape around Mae Malai let riders settle into the enduro and feel Thai traffic before the serious riding begins. We’re back at the bungalows by afternoon to check gear for the days ahead.
Heading north on Highway 107 to Phrao for lunch, then continuing deeper into the mountains of northern Thailand. Remote mountain villages appear along the route and the first river crossings on this guided enduro tour through Thailand test both bikes and riders. By late afternoon you arrive in Chiang Rai for an overnight stay near the night bazaar.
Laos
Seven days of enduro motorcycle touring through Laos, from the Mekong border crossing at Huay Xai through Packbeng, Nong Kiew, and UNESCO Luang Prabang before returning to Thailand.
Two hours of paved road north leads to the Golden Triangle — where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the Mekong, famous for its opium history. The route follows the Mekong 50 km downstream to Chiang Khong, then crosses the river on a bridge into Laos. After border formalities the group settles in at Huay Xai, where ancient temples, local markets, and riverside restaurants fill the evening on the start of the enduro motorcycle tour through Laos.
The longest offroad stage of this Thailand Laos offroad tour — 150 km through mountain villages where children wave from the roadside and villagers peer curiously at every stop. The destination is Packbeng, a Mekong village where boat travelers between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang sleep overnight. Quiet by day, the village wakes up in the evening with riverside restaurants that make it a natural highlight of the Laos section.
A small paved road winds 230 km through countless villages, over mountain passes, and through the northern Laos highlands to Nong Kiew on the banks of the Nam Ou River. After a full day of offroad adventure through Thailand and Laos, watching the sunset over limestone karsts from a riverside resort with a cold drink is one of the best moments of the tour.
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
Day 7 starts with a boat ride on the Nam Ou River, with an optional visit to a cave near Nong Kiew that sheltered locals during the Vietnam War. An afternoon hike to a viewpoint rewards those who want the panorama. On day 8, the Luang Prabang enduro tour stage arrives: riding through broad valleys into the UNESCO World Heritage city, where the guesthouse sits on the bank of the Kan River. The night market is a short walk after dinner.
The old town of Luang Prabang was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The morning is free for laundry, shopping, and exploring. The afternoon tour goes to one of the finest waterfalls in Asia. Back in town, the temple complex at Wat Phousi is worth the climb. In the evening the group dines at a restaurant on the bank of the Mekong.
One of the most scenic riding days of this offroad adventure through Thailand and Laos — river crossings, remote mountain villages, and untouched jungle on the road back toward the Thai border. The border crossing is quick, and by late afternoon the group arrives at the small town of Tung Chang in northern Thailand for the night.
Thailand
The final Thailand section returns from the Laos border through river crossings to Tung Chang, then winds south through Phayao, Chiang Dao hot springs, an elephant camp, and back to Chiang Mai.
Day 11 follows winding mountain roads to Phayao, a lake city where fresh fish restaurants line the waterfront — if you like fish, this is the right stop. Day 12 continues on quiet curves through the highlands to Chiang Dao, where natural hot springs offer thermal pools at the end of the ride. A soak here is well earned after two days of 14-day enduro riding in Thailand.
Day 13 starts at an elephant camp in the hills north of Chiang Mai, followed by another offroad day through the hilly north back to the Mae Malai base camp. On day 14, a hearty breakfast leads to a transfer to Chiang Mai Airport, closing two weeks of guided enduro touring through Thailand and Laos. A beach extension is available for those wanting more time in Thailand.
