Sweden Travel and Vacation – Good to know

German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in Sweden. For longer stays or other nationalities, it is advisable to contact the Swedish Embassy or the consulate. A visa cannot be applied for upon arrival but must be applied for online or in person, often at least 15 days before the trip.
The Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is the largest and best airport for international flights to Sweden. It offers excellent connections to the city with the Arlanda Express, trains, and buses. Alternatively, there are Gothenburg-Landvetter and Malmö-Sturup. Allow enough time for your journey to the destination.
The Swedish Krona (SEK) is the official currency. Credit cards are widely used, but it is also advisable to carry some cash for smaller shops or rural areas. Mobile payment options like Swish are very popular in Sweden. ATMs are available everywhere, and most stores accept credit cards.
No specific vaccinations are required for entry into Sweden. However, travel insurance is highly recommended to cover costs in case of illness or accidents. Check your existing insurance and make sure you are fully covered, especially for medical emergencies during your trip.
A valid driver's license from your home country is sufficient for driving in Sweden, as long as it is written in Latin letters. For longer stays, an international driver's license may be recommended. Be aware of the Swedish traffic rules, especially driving on the right side of the road and strict speed controls.
In Sweden, you can easily buy a SIM card in many stores, such as electronics stores or kiosks. Providers like Telia, Tele2, and Telenor have various prepaid offers. Make sure to unlock your device and choose a plan that suits your usage comfort.
Sweden offers excellent transport options. In cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg, public transport networks (subway, buses, trams) are reliable. Trains connect major cities. For rural areas, long-distance buses are a good option. Bicycles can be easily rented and are an eco-friendly way to explore the city. Plan your trip in advance!
