Mexico Travel and Vacation – Good to know

For most travelers from Europe and North America, no visa is required if the stay is under 180 days. Instead, you will receive a tourist card upon entering the country. This is issued free of charge at airports or can be applied for online. Check the current requirements before traveling, depending on your nationality and purpose of stay.

The Airport of Cancun is considered one of the best for tourists, as it serves numerous international flights. Mexico City's Airport is also good for cultural experiences, especially for city trips. Both airports offer good connections to hotels and attractions, preferably use shuttle services or taxis for a safe journey.

The local currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Credit cards are accepted in most tourist areas, but it is advisable to always have some cash for smaller purchases. ATMs are widely available, but check beforehand the fees that may be charged by your bank. Exchange money at official exchange offices or banks for the best rates.

Vaccinations are not mandatory, but recommendations for Hepatitis A and Typhoid exist for short stays. A travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover health risks. Also, make sure that your health insurance covers the services you need abroad. Also check COVID-19 regulations before departure.

To drive in Mexico, you need a valid driver's license, which is ideally recognized internationally. Also check the traffic rules, which may differ from those in Europe or North America. Rental cars are widespread, but traffic in cities can be challenging. Make sure to inquire about the liability and comprehensive insurance of the rental car.
