Brazil Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Travelers from Germany do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in Brazil. It is important that your passport is valid for at least six more months. You can check the entry requirements on the website of the Brazilian Embassy to avoid any possible changes. A visa is required for a longer stay, which can be applied for online.
The São Paulo-Guarulhos Airport (GRU) is considered the best international airport for traveling to Brazil. It offers the most international connections and good transport links. Alternatively, you may consider the Rio de Janeiro-Galeão Airport (GIG), depending on your destination. Both airports have infrastructure and services for travelers.
The local currency in Brazil is the Brazilian Real (BRL). In larger cities, credit cards can be used safely; however, it is advisable to have cash for smaller purchases on hand. ATMs are widespread, but you should be aware of fees. Plan to obtain some cash in advance, especially in less touristy areas.
A travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover unexpected costs. The recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A and Yellow Fever, especially if you are traveling to more rural areas. Check the current vaccination standards and requirements before your trip. Consult your doctor to discuss personal health needs.
In Brazil, prepaid SIM cards are a cost-effective way to be mobile. These can be purchased at airports, electronics stores or supermarkets. Companies like Claro, Vivo or TIM provide good network coverage. Documents to bring are an ID and sometimes an address in Brazil. Check the best rates before purchasing for optimal use.
