The Journey
Kenya and Tanzania Tours & Experience Trips. Day 1: Departure to the timeless charms of Zanzibar. As the sun paints the horizon with the colors of dawn, we gather with expectant hearts to embark on a journey filled with history and beauty. Our journey begins as we sail from Dar es Salaam to the famous island of Zanzibar, a jewel in the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival in the enchanting old town of Stone Town, we are greeted by labyrinthine streets that whisper stories of bygone eras. Here, amidst the echoes of the past, we lay down our burdens of worry for the land and embrace the promise of adventure with lighter souls. Day 2: Unveiling Zanzibar's spice-laden splendor. With the first light, we step into the vibrant canvas of Stone Town and follow in the footsteps of explorers and traders through its historic alleys. Our journey then takes us beyond the city's borders, into the heart of Zanzibar's spice-scented landscape. Amidst lush plantations and bustling villages, we immerse ourselves in a sensual symphony and learn the ancient art of spice cultivation from those who lovingly tend the earth. Throughout the day, we find solace in the arms of unspoiled beaches, where the azure waters sing of timeless allure.
Today is your arrival day in Zanzibar and is available for you to explore the city. We recommend that you check in with the crew at the Maru Maru Hotel at 4:00 PM, who will check you in and give you a brief orientation of what to expect in the coming days. Please note that a walking tour of Stone Town is included in your tour for the following day.
With a rich history, this bustling port was once a landmark on both the slave and spice trade routes. Our morning begins with a city tour of Stone Town to discover the more well-known landmarks, including the birthplace of Freddy Mercury. After our city tour, we travel by car to our base for the next 2 nights. Before our arrival, we stop along the way to enjoy a guided spice tour that takes us through villages and spice plantations. You will experience first-hand how spice farm workers climb the trees and look for specific plants, and you will have the opportunity to buy fresh spices directly from these farms.
Today is a free day to enjoy some of the many attractions and activities that are offered. Water sports are at the forefront. Whatever you choose today, you have plenty of opportunities to create some memories of the island. Explore the many attractions on offer or simply relax on the beach and enjoy the sun.
We say goodbye to the island and board our return ferry; upon our arrival at the port of Dar es Salaam, we meet our truck again and return to Bagamoyo, where we spend the night.
This morning we are heading north and crossing the northern regions of Tanzania. Our destination for the night is the vibrant city of Arusha. Northern Tanzania is home to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro, and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Although it is a short distance to Karatu, we will be on the road for most of the day to move closer to the Ngorongoro Crater. Before our arrival in Karatu, we will visit the Mto wa Mbu market, located in the small village of Mto wa Mbu. Known for products like rice and their distinctive red bananas, the town is located on the main road that leads directly to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. This evening, our guide will inform us about our 2-night trip.
We get up early and are picked up from our camp and transported by 4x4 safari vehicles to the Ngorongoro Crater. In the morning, we will explore the crater floor and look for the animals that roam the plains. In the afternoon, we will reach our camp in the Seronera region, located in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. The camp is surrounded by spectacular views and abundant wildlife, and tonight, while enjoying a cold drink, we will experience the sights and sounds of nature passing right in front of our Meru tent.
