The Journey

8-Day Sports Enduro Tour in the Tunisian Sahara

The Sahara doesn’t ease you in. From the moment you clear the airport, the heat, the dust, and the scale of it are immediately real. Tunisia puts you at the edge of nine million square kilometers of desert within a single day’s ride — and this tour takes you deep into it.

What you find out there is not scenery. It’s open salt lakes, shifting sand, cave camps, and dune faces that grow taller every stage. The desert is an environment that demands your full attention — and gives back exactly as much as you put in.

Overcross guides lead every stage from the front. A support vehicle handles luggage and gear throughout. The expedition kitchen covers full board — breakfast and dinner — for the entire tour.
04 Nights Under the Stars

Nights Under the Stars
You sleep in mountain caves, under open desert sky, and at oasis stops across the Tunisian Sahara — no resort hotels mid-route, just the desert at its most raw, with the group around a fire.
05 Film Sets and the Coast

Film Sets and the Coast
The route passes the Star Wars filming set and the cave camp from The English Patient. After eight days of sand, dunes, and open sky, the tour closes with a hotel night by the Tunisian coast — the sharpest contrast of the trip.

Tunisia

Tunisia puts serious Saharan terrain within a day’s ride of the coast. Dahar Mountains, Chott el Djerid, and the Rommel Piste deliver eight days of varied desert riding — gravel, salt flat, and open sand — without the logistics of a multi-country route.

Days 1–6
Motorradreisen Tunesien Abenteuer Tee Abendessen

Arrival and Dahar Mountains

You land in Tunisia and the team picks you up from the airport. Your motorcycle has already been shipped ahead. Tea, dinner, sleep under open sky in the desert dark.

The next day opens on the first long stage — the Dahar Mountains, climbing to 3,300 feet (1,000 m) above Chott el Djerid. Camp that night is in a cave used as a filming location for The English Patient: soup over an open fire, no electricity, no signal. This is where the desert begins.

Sand Training Begins

You follow the Rommel Piste to the edge of the Chott el Djerid salt lake, passing the Star Wars filming set shimmering in the heat. Sand training starts here on flat terrain — acceleration, body position, braking, and shifting in sand.

Day four is a full training day: throttle control, steering technique, drifting, and power feel on moving ground. The first dunes reach 1 foot (30 cm). By the final exercise, you are on 100-foot (30 m) dune faces — reading terrain, controlling balance, trusting the bike.

Salt Lake Run

Open desert at speed. You blast across a vast salt lake — standing on the pegs, throttle steady, balance shifting as the flat surface runs beneath you. A few days ago you wouldn’t have pushed past 19 mph (30 km/h) out here. Now the lake opens up and you hold the line with confidence. This is where the training pays off. The group covers real distance today, and the final kilometers back to camp run on paved road.

Questions about the tour itinerary?

Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.

Dune Fields

The most demanding stage of the tour. You ride through a large dune field on tracks and desert trails across the Tunisian Sahara — and most riders find their personal limits somewhere out here. The terrain is technical, sustained, and unrelenting. Throttle decisions matter. Line choices matter. At the end, an oasis bath is waiting — cold water, shade, and the quiet satisfaction of having pushed through the hardest day on the route.

Back to the Coast

From early morning to late afternoon, you ride over sand fields, tracks, and paved road back through the Dahar Mountains toward the coast. The same landscape you entered a week ago looks different from the other side of the training. You cover serious distance today — the final enduro stage before the tour closes. The group arrives at a hotel by the sea. Dinner, a drink at the bar, and desert dust finally washed off.

Departure

The motorcycles go back on the trailer. You collect your return flight and leave the African continent. Somewhere over the Mediterranean, the week settles in — the dunes, the salt lake, the hardest stage. Your motorcycle returns to Overcross in Tübingen over the following 10–20 days, ready for pickup. Individual return flights for all participants.
