GOOD TO KNOW

Tanzania Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Travelers from many countries need a visa to enter Tanzania. The visa can be applied for online through the official website or purchased upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to apply for the visa in advance to avoid long waiting times. Check the specific requirements for your country to avoid hassle!

The Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam is the main airport for international flights. Alternatively, the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) offers arrival options for tourists visiting Kilimanjaro. Both airports are well connected to international and domestic destinations, making access to Tanzania's beautiful nature easier.

The local currency in Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). Cash is the preferred payment method, especially in rural areas. Credit cards are accepted in major cities and hotels, but fees may apply. It is advisable to carry cash and exchange it at ATMs or exchange offices. Make sure to have small denominations for local markets!

Before traveling to Tanzania, all standard vaccinations should be checked and relevant vaccinations, such as for yellow fever, should be administered. Travel insurance is strongly recommended to protect against medical emergencies. Also, inform yourself about malaria prophylaxis, especially when traveling to rural areas. Safety and health should always take priority!

Buying a SIM card is easy; providers like Airtel and Vodacom are widespread. In large cities, you will find many shops that sell SIM cards. Bring your passport for registration. The rates are affordable and offer a good data volume to stay in touch while you explore the natural wonders of Tanzania. Avoid international roaming fees!
