This madagascar adventure tour covers the western circuit of Madagascar by 4x4, river cruise and trekking across 12 days.
Antananarivo – Arrival
Your madagascar adventure tour begins at Ivato International Airport in Antananarivo. After arrival formalities, a transfer takes you to your hotel in the highland capital. The evening is free to settle in and prepare for the journey southwest that begins the next morning.
Antananarivo – Antsirabe (170 km)
Leaving the capital early, this madagascar overland tour leg heads south by 4x4 through the city of rocks, Ambatolampy, where a working aluminum foundry produces pots and kitchen goods for daily Malagasy life. Continuing to Antsirabe, the highland water city known for its thermal springs, the group arrives in time for a relaxed evening at the hotel.
Antsirabe – Miandrivazo (240 km)
After breakfast, a rickshaw ride takes the group to an artisan workshop where zebu horn is carved into decorative objects. The drive continues west toward Miandrivazo, a small riverside town that serves as the departure point for the multi-day tsiribihina river cruise beginning the following morning.
Tsiribihina River Cruise – Day 1
The tsiribihina river cruise launches from the dock at Miandrivazo. Drifting downstream on a traditional kahn, the group watches riverside fishermen work their nets as the pace of life slows. After several hours on the water, the boat reaches a riverside camp where tents are pitched and dinner is served under open skies far from any road.
Tsiribihina River Cruise – Day 2
Day two on the tsiribihina river cruise brings herons along the banks and lemurs watching from the trees overhead. A riverside waterfall offers a refreshing swim before the kahn continues downstream to the evening camp. Camping again on the riverbank, the silence of the Madagascar interior is complete.
Belo sur Tsiribihina – Bekopaka
The river journey ends at midday in Belo sur Tsiribihina. From here, the group transfers to 4x4 vehicles and takes the red laterite track west through a string of small villages toward Bekopaka, the gateway town for bemaraha national park. Arrival at the hotel in the late afternoon marks the start of the tsingy section.

Tsingy de Bemaraha Trekking
The centerpiece of this tsingy de bemaraha tour is a full day inside the UNESCO World Heritage limestone massif. Guided trails lead through razor-sharp stone pinnacles up to 30 metres tall, past rare endemic plants and wildlife found nowhere else. In the afternoon, a pirogue excursion through the Manambolo Gorges adds a river perspective before returning to the hotel in Bekopaka.
Bekopaka – Morondava (200 km)
After leaving bemaraha national park behind, the 4x4 convoy covers 200 km east to the coast. The drive arrives at the Avenue of the Baobabs near Morondava at dusk, when the silhouettes of 800-year-old baobab trees line the dirt track in the low orange light. This is the visual highlight of the avenue of the baobabs tour section of the circuit.
Morondava – Rest Day
A full rest day in Morondava on the western coast. The day is free for individual exploration: walking the town, relaxing on the beach, or arranging optional activities at the waterfront. This is the only unscheduled day of the madagascar guided adventure itinerary and a good opportunity to review photos from the Tsingy and river stages.
Morondava – Flight to Antananarivo
Depending on the scheduled departure time, a transfer to Morondava Airport takes the group for the domestic flight back to Antananarivo. On arrival, an airport pickup returns everyone to the hotel for the final two nights of this madagascar bike tour style circuit through the west.
Antananarivo – Ambohimanga
The morning is dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ambohimanga, the sacred hilltop royal city north of the capital. A guide leads the tour through fortified gates, royal residences and ceremonial grounds, covering the pre-colonial history of the Merina Kingdom. The afternoon is free in the city with time for a morondava tour souvenir market visit if desired.
Antananarivo – Departure
The final morning of this madagascar round trip brings a hotel transfer to Ivato International Airport in time for your international flight home.
