Johannesburg to Palapye

Johannesburg to Palapye

With Johannesburg already in the rearview mirror, our Africa adventure trip takes us towards the border with Botswana. After we complete the formalities at the border crossing, we continue our journey on the Trans-Kalahari Highway (a long-distance road that connects Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. While it leads tourists through breathtaking landscapes, it is also an important economic trade route) which ultimately takes us to our overnight stop in Palapye. Discover the beauty of the northwestern province on our exciting tour through South Africa and Botswana. Included meals: lunch, dinner

2nd day: Palapye to Maun

2nd day: Palapye to Maun

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, the real adventure in Africa begins today. Our journey takes us through the barren yet very fascinating landscape of the Central Kalahari Desert, one of the largest and wildest nature reserves in the world. Along the way, we pass picturesque small towns and villages that provide insight into everyday life in Botswana. An absolute highlight is the Orapa Diamond Mine, an impressive symbol of Botswana's wealth in minerals. This mine, a joint project of De Beers and the Botswana government, is one of the largest diamond mines in the world. It is an important economic engine that significantly contributes to Botswana's GDP and export revenues. After Orapa, we skirt the southern edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, where we have the opportunity for our first small safari of this trip from the window. Today's destination is the town of Maun, where we will settle into our accommodations for the night. Maun is known as the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world and offers an indescribable variety of flora and fauna. Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

3rd Day: Okavango Delta

3rd Day: Okavango Delta

The next 2 nights we will be separated from our truck. Please pack your clothes for this time, as well as the essentials, into a small extra bag. We will have a short time on site to repack. Today we enter the Okavango Delta with its "endless" expanses. The first major safari of this Africa trip awaits us, where we will experience the impressive and picturesque landscape, as well as the fascinating and diverse wildlife up close. The delta is home to 4 of the Big Five, crocodiles, hippos, and over 400 bird species. From Maun, we will go to the Khwai Conservation Area, a wildlife reserve on the edge of the delta. It is community-based managed and operates sustainable tourism. The number of tourists that can stay in the reserve at any one time is limited, which helps to minimize the ecological footprint. Our guide will provide us with information about what to expect during our afternoon game drive. Included meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

4th Day: Greater Moremi Game Reserve Area

4th Day: Greater Moremi Game Reserve Area

After a relaxing night in the midst of the wilderness, today is a day full of experiences and unforgettable adventures on our group trip through southern Africa. We will spend most of the day on a safari in the Moremi Game Reserve. The Moremi Game Reserve is one of the most beautiful, well-known, and with an area of 5,000 km², one of the largest protected areas in Botswana. Like the Khwai reserve, the Moremi Private Game Reserve collaborates with NGOs and other partners to promote anti-poaching projects and biodiversity conservation here. Revenue from tourism is partially invested in these projects. It is located in the northeastern part of the Okavango Delta. Here we encounter bumpy roads, but they are a small matter for our 4x4 vehicles. Numerous animal species, including the Big Five, roam the plains. We travel through the diverse landscape, which consists of wetlands, water landscapes, grasslands, forests, and savannahs. In the evening, we return to Khwai and can share our breathtaking and unforgettable impressions over a delicious dinner. Included meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

5th day: Khwai to Nata

5th day: Khwai to Nata

After an early breakfast, we leave Khwai and first return to our truck in Maun. Our adventure journey continues, as there are many more adventures and images waiting that can never be erased from our memory until the end of our days. Today's drive takes us through the Botswana salt pans near Nata. The Nata saline is one of the largest salt pans in the world and stretches over hundreds of square kilometers. The flat landscape during the dry season features a white and glittering salt crust. In the rainy season, the landscape transforms into small lakes and marshy areas. Here you can often encounter springboks. Included meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

6th day: Chobe National Park

6th day: Chobe National Park

After the delicious breakfast, we leave Nata and continue our Africa tour, heading to Chobe National Park. Chobe National Park is one of the most famous national parks in Botswana and is the third largest in the country, with nearly 12,000 km². The park is known for its elephant population and is estimated to host about 50,000 elephants. The fascinating landscape is a mix of dense forests, swamps, river landscapes, and savannas. Moreover, the park is home to a variety of African wildlife and numerous bird species. After lunch, we are looking forward to a river safari on the Chobe River, where we will see elephants as well as other animals by the river. Included meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

7th Day: Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

7th Day: Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

With countless and indescribable memories from safari and nature in our luggage, we leave the Chobe National Park after a hearty breakfast. Our journey through Africa in the southern part of the Dark Continent continues towards the border with Zimbabwe. We reach the city of Victoria Falls, right on the outskirts of which are the world-famous and majestic Victoria Falls. The Brit David Livingstone discovered the falls in the 19th century as the first European and named them after the then queen of England, Victoria. They are one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The roar of the water creates a cloud of water above the falls, which rises up to 400 meters high and can be seen from afar depending on the weather. After arrival, the rest of the day is at leisure. The city and the falls offer numerous activities for every desire and taste in addition to admiring the view. Included meals: Breakfast, lunch. Optional activities: Visit to the Victoria Falls, sunset boat trip on the Zambezi, bungee jump, helicopter flights, white-water rafting

11. Day: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park

Please note that during the upcoming travel days (while visiting the Kruger National Park), the order of activities may change without prior notice and a certain level of flexibility is required to experience a small part of the 147 species of mammals / 500 species of birds / 100 species of reptiles and of course the BIG five. This is done to maximize opportunities for wildlife observation and experiences. On certain departures, it may occur that a different vehicle type is used either at the beginning or at the end of the tour. This means that on Day 11 (from Johannesburg to the Greater Kruger National Park) or on Day 14 (Kruger National Park to Johannesburg), your trip may be conducted with shuttle vehicles (minivans) to meet and/or depart from the Nomad truck in the Greater Kruger National Park. If your selected date includes such a shuttle ride, we will inform you accordingly. Enjoy the flexibility and the unique wildlife observations on our safari through the Kruger National Park. After breakfast, we leave the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg again and set off eastward. A highlight of this adventure through southern Africa awaits us at the end of this impressive and unforgettable Africa trip. We are going on safari in the Kruger National Park, which is, as previously mentioned, the largest national park in Africa. On the way, we pass the coal fields of the Mpumalanga province, where coal is mined. This region is of great importance for both the country’s energy production and from an economic perspective (as a lot of coal is exported). Included meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
