The local currency in Tibet is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). Credit cards are accepted in major cities, but it is advisable to always have cash on hand, especially in rural areas where the infrastructure can be limited. ATMs are available in Lhasa, but not everywhere. Bring enough cash for your trip.
