4x4 Off-Road journey through the highlands of Iceland

In the evening, the group meets at an accommodation in the west of Iceland, near the famous geyser area. Those who arrive early can take the time to visit some natural highlights like the geyser or the Gullfoss waterfall. During the joint briefing, the route, driving conditions, and the specifics of the upcoming highland stages will be discussed.

Today the route leads over slopes through the northern highlands. Through a distinctive valley, Akureyri is finally reached, the most important city in northern Iceland. After a short break, it continues to the region around Myvatn. There, volcanic landscapes, bizarre lava formations, and steaming solfataras await. The day ends in a hotel located in a particularly beautiful scenic area in the north.

This travel day is particularly characterized by water, as several fords and river crossings are firmly part of the route. First, we go to the hot springs of Landmannalaugar, one of the most famous natural sites in the Icelandic highlands. Afterwards, the route continues through colorful volcanic landscapes and along little-traveled tracks in the south of the island. To end the day, a particularly stunning stretch awaits through one of the most beautiful regions of the highlands.

At the end of the journey, an intense off-road day awaits once again. Narrow mountain tracks, deep fords, muddy sections, and rutted tracks provide varied driving in a spectacular setting. A special highlight is the ascent to the Hekla Saddle. In good weather, there is a wide view over the highlands here, a strong conclusion to this trip to Iceland.
