This motorcycle trip through Franconian Switzerland takes you on five days through one of the twistiest regions in Germany. From a fixed tour hotel in the Wiesenttal area, we start three guided day tours in the triangle between Nuremberg, Bamberg, and Bayreuth.

The Franconian Switzerland is a motorcycle area that doesn’t require much searching. Between Nuremberg, Bamberg, and Bayreuth lies a landscape of narrow valleys, Jura rocks, limestone caves, and medieval castles, interspersed with small country roads that hardly know a straight kilometer. The region owes its name to the travel writers of the 19th century, who found the then Muggendorf mountains reminiscent of Switzerland.
Throughout the entire trip, we stay at the same tour hotel and take three day trips to the surrounding area from there. This means: no daily change of hotel, no packing and unpacking, the luggage stays in the room, and you ride lightly loaded. The stages of around 225 km do not place excessive demands on cornering skills, but allow enough room for viewpoints, caves, castles, and a generous stop at the beer garden.

Arrival and tour briefing
Individual arrival at the tour hotel in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, arrival by 6:00 PM. During the tour briefing, we will get to know each other and go through all the important information about the travel days. Afterwards, we will prepare for the tour together over dinner. Those arriving by their own car can park it at the hotel for the duration of the trip.
Muggendorfer Mountains and Devil's Cave
The first day of the journey takes us through the so-called Muggendorfer Gebürg, the mountains, valleys, and rocks that gave the region its name in the 19th century. Between the tracks of the Franconian Steam Railway and the Wiesent river, we curve through the valley to Pottenstein, which presents itself as a panorama from above.
Next, we continue to the Hohenmirsberger Plateau, the highest elevation of the Franconian Jura, whose viewing platform opens up a panoramic view at a height of 22 meters. After that, we visit the medieval Rabenstein Castle on the Castle Road and the Devil's Cave, the largest of the approximately 1,000 caves in the region. To finish, a stop at Kathis Bräu in Aufseß, the most famous biker meeting point in Upper Franconia. About 220 km.
Würgau Pass, Kulmbach and Ellerberg
Today we head north to Kulmbach. To warm up, the Würgau Pass, a mountain racing track with over a hundred years of history, where races with historic motorcycles are still held today. After that, the Kleinziegenfeld Valley, where the small river Weismain accompanies us between mighty rock walls and calcareous grass slopes.
In Kulmbach, the Plassenburg awaits, once a Hohenzollern fortress and still the landmark of the margrave town. After lunch in its shadow, the route leads to the Ellerberg racing track on the eastern edge of the Bamberg basin, whose hairpin turns from the 1960s and 1970s still provide driving fun today. Bamberg and Steigerwald
The last day of travel belongs to the Steigerwald. The first destination is Bamberg with the largest historical town center in Germany, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. During a city tour, we immerse ourselves in over a thousand years of history on the Regnitz River, afterwards there will be time for a coffee in the old town.
The subsequent route constantly changes its character: green valleys, mountain peaks, small markets and hamlets, winding mountain roads and gently curved lanes. At the southern foothills of the Steigerwald, the forest thins out and the landscape opens up to the cultivation area of Franconian wine. In the evening, Franconian cuisine at the tour hotel. About 230 km.
Departure day
After a final shared breakfast, it is time to say goodbye. Each person sets off for their individual journey home, carrying the memories of four days of curves, castles, and Franconian hospitality.

It is aimed at advanced riders with touring experience and good cornering technique. The journey takes place on paved country roads in good to satisfactory condition, partly on winding and narrow sections. With around 225 km per day, the tour remains pleasantly relaxed.

No, we start every day from the same tour hotel in the Wiesenttal area and return there in the evening. The luggage stays in the room; you ride the day tours with light luggage.

Up to 10 motorcycles per group plus a guide, with a maximum of two groups simultaneously. The minimum number of participants is 6 people. We form the groups according to riding level, rider experience, and motorcycle type to ensure the pace suits everyone.

There is no support vehicle on this tour. Since we are traveling from a fixed location, your luggage remains in the hotel room anyway. We recommend a roadside assistance policy that covers breakdowns or accidents. Often, it is already included in your insurance or automobile club.

Yes, there are parking spaces available for the duration of the trip at the tour hotel. On request, we can also arrange a parking option for a motorcycle trailer.

This trip is well-suited for passengers. The stages are moderate, and there are many stops at castles, caves, and viewpoints, as well as a city tour in Bamberg. There is a separate travel price for passengers.
