Welcome to Namibia
Join OVERCROSS for the ultimate enduro adventure through the heart of Africa. You are picked up at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek. A 45-kilometre transfer brings you into the city. We stroll through the lively streets and soak up the African vibe. We sort out the formalities and pick up supplies. Think currency exchange, SIM cards, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. We also grab some Biltong — dried meat — for the road. The next day, we head into the Namib Desert. Windhoek is Namibia's capital. It blends modern city life with African character. Key sights include the Christuskirche, the Tintenpalast (the seat of parliament), and the Alte Feste, a historical museum. Each one tells part of the city's rich and turbulent past.
Daily program: Okavango Delta-Victoria Falls
1: Arrival in Windhoek
We pick you up at Hosea Kutako International Airport. A 45-kilometre transfer takes us into Windhoek. We walk through the busy streets and get a feel for African life. We handle all the admin — currency exchange, SIM cards, sunscreen, and insect repellent. We also stock up on Biltong and travel snacks. Tomorrow, we set off into the Namib Desert. Windhoek blends city life with African spirit. The Christuskirche, the Tintenpalast, and the historic Alte Feste museum are all worth a visit. Each one offers a window into the city's past.
2: 290 km to Waterberg
We ride north-west to Okahandja, about 70 kilometres away. This town is famous for its lively craft market. You can find local art and wood carvings there. Okahandja is also the heart of Herero culture. The Herero cemetery is a key historical site. From there, we continue on gravel roads through wide-open landscapes dotted with acacia trees. Keep an eye out for antelope. The Waterberg Plateau is a geological wonder. In 1904, it was the site of the Battle of Waterberg during the Herero and Nama uprising. Late in the afternoon, we hike up to the plateau summit to watch the sunset. The views are breathtaking. The Waterberg Plateau Park also protects endangered species like rhinos and buffalo.
3: 460 km to Tsumkwe
We leave the Waterberg Plateau Park in the morning. We head north on gravel roads toward Grootfontein. On the way, we stop at the Hoba Meteorite — the largest known meteorite on Earth. It weighs over 60 tonnes. After lunch, we tackle the bumpy road to Tsumkwe. This remote area is one of the most culturally rich in Namibia. It is the traditional homeland of the San people, also known as Bushmen. We stay at Tsumkwe Lodge and experience San culture up close. You can watch traditional dances and learn about their ancient hunting skills.
4: 290 km to Guma Island
We ride east to the Dobe border crossing into Botswana. Wide savannas stretch to the horizon. At the T-junction, we turn north. The road is rough tarmac, but every kilometre is worth it. We arrive at Guma Island Camp — a true oasis inside the Okavango Delta. The Delta is one of the world's largest and most spectacular wetlands. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Elephants, lions, hippos, and countless birds all call it home.
5: 140 km to Mahango
Wake up to the call of the African fish eagle — one of Africa's most iconic sounds. We ride along the rough road and spot these majestic birds along the riverbanks. In Shakawe, we fill up our tanks and cross back into Namibia, into the Caprivi Strip — now called the Zambezi Region. This area is known for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes. We ride through the Mahango National Park and check in at Mahango Lodge. In the evening, a sundowner boat cruise lets you spot elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birds. The Okavango River scenery here is truly special.
6: 340 km to Katima Mulilo
From Divundu, we take the well-maintained tarmac road to Katima Mulilo. The Zambezi Region is home to several national parks and nature reserves. Watch out for elephants crossing the road. We spend the night on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. Katima Mulilo is the region's main town. It played an important role in Namibia's fight for independence. Today it blends culture and history. The Zambezi Museum and the Caprivi Arts Centre are both well worth a visit.
7: 160 km to Senyati
A shorter day today. We ride from Katima Mulilo to Senyati Safari Camp. One highlight is crossing the Ngoma Bridge over the Chobe River. This bridge marks the border between Namibia and Botswana. The road along the Chobe River is a great spot for wildlife. Elephants and buffalo are often seen here. Senyati Safari Camp is famous for its elephant visits. The herd comes in regularly, right into camp. Nearby lies the Chobe National Park — a wildlife paradise.
Dieser Tag wirft oft Fragen zur Überquerung der Ngoma-Brücke und den Wildtiersichtungen auf. Erkunde die Highlights des Senyati Safari Camps und den Chobe-Nationalpark – mehr erfahren.
8: 160 km to Victoria Falls
Crossing into Zimbabwe by motorcycle takes time. It can be frustrating and slow. So instead, we take a shuttle from the lodge for a day trip. Our guide handles all the paperwork. Then we meet "Mosi-oa-Tunya" — "the smoke that thunders." Victoria Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the world. We explore the falls, walk around Victoria Falls town, and browse the local markets. Then we head back to Senyati Safari Camp. The falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Activities include helicopter flights, bungee jumping, and white-water rafting.
9: 245 km to Elephant Sands
We head south along the famous "Elephant Highway" toward Nata. Today is a wildlife day, so the ride is short and relaxed. In the afternoon, sit by the pool and watch elephants come to the waterhole. We stay at Elephant Sands Lodge, known for its up-close elephant encounters. The lodge sits inside a wildlife sanctuary where elephants roam freely.
10: 220 km to Makgadikgadi Pan
In Nata, we change direction and ride east. We pass the enormous salt pans of the Makgadikgadi — one of the largest salt flats on the planet. The scenery is otherworldly and perfect for photos. We ride out onto the pan and spend the night at the quirky Planet Baobab. The camp sits among ancient baobab trees. We enjoy a traditional African dinner under a sky full of stars. The Makgadikgadi Pans are the remains of a prehistoric lake. In the rainy season, wildlife returns in abundance.
11: 220 km to Maun
Today's ride is shorter. We head to Maun — the "Gateway to the Okavango Delta." Maun is a vibrant town and the launch pad for safari adventures. We take a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta to see the floodplains and waterways from above. It is a stunning perspective. We stay at the rustic Audi Camp on the Thamalakane River. The setting is beautifully peaceful. Maun also has a craft market where you can pick up local art and souvenirs.
12: 500 km to the Namibian border
An early start for the long ride back to Namibia. We pass through bush and small villages. We stop for lunch in Ghanzi — an important trading hub in the region. Ghanzi is known as the "Heart of the Kalahari." It offers a glimpse into San life and local culture. After crossing the border at Buitepos, we relax at East End Rest Camp — our last bush camp of the trip.
13: 320 km to Windhoek
For a fun change, we take a scenic gravel road through the bush toward Gobabis. It brings back that true enduro feeling. The long stretch to Windhoek passes through only two small towns. This Botswana–Namibia motorcycle tour has been a brilliant mix of adventure, wildlife, culture, and natural beauty. It has shown us the very best of Africa. Gobabis is known as the "Gateway to the Kalahari" and has local markets and cultural sites worth exploring.
14: Transfer
After a relaxed last breakfast, we head to the airport for your flight home. This motorcycle journey through Botswana and Namibia has brought Africa's beauty and simplicity to life. It is a trip you will not forget.
