The local currency is the Bulgarian Lev (BGN). Credit cards are accepted in most cities, but it is advisable to carry some cash, especially in rural areas. ATMs are widely available. Remember to also try discount negotiations for larger purchases – this is common in Bulgaria and can save you money.
No specific vaccinations are required for Bulgaria; however, it is recommended to check your basic vaccinations (such as tetanus, hepatitis A/B). A travel insurance is also advisable to cover unexpected doctor visits or other issues. Check if your insurance is valid internationally and covers emergencies.
To drive in Bulgaria, you need a valid driver's license from your home country, often an international driver's license will suffice.
