Honduras Travel and Vacation – Good to know

German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. The passport, however, should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. For stays longer than 90 days, a visa must be applied for, which can be done at the embassy or online. A Visa on Arrival is not offered. Check the specific requirements for your nationality if you are entering from another country.
The best airport for international flights is the Ramón Villeda Morales Airport in San Pedro Sula. This airport offers numerous connections and excellent access to land transportation. Alternatively, you can also use the Tegucigalpa Airport, which is closer to some hiking areas and national parks. Plan your arrival so that you can quickly start your adventure!
The official currency in Honduras is the Lempira (HNL). While some shops and restaurants accept credit cards, it is advisable to carry cash, especially in rural areas. Use ATMs in cities to withdraw cash. It is recommended to have smaller bills for everyday expenses, as change can sometimes be scarce.
Before the trip to Honduras, a travel insurance covering medical emergencies is strongly recommended. Vaccinations against Hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus are also common. Special vaccinations for yellow fever are required when you are coming from an affected country. Be sure to consult a travel doctor for personal recommendations before your departure.
For driving in Honduras, you need a valid international driver's license and your national driver's permit. Note that driving must comply with local traffic rules, and be prepared for potholes and unpaved roads. Road conditions can vary, especially in rural areas. A reliable off-road equipment is therefore advisable.
In Honduras, you can choose from various providers such as Tigo or Claro. SIM cards are available in supermarkets, stores, or directly at the airport. You need an ID to purchase a SIM card. Be sure to select a plan with enough data volume for your needs, especially if you are on the go a lot and would like to use GPS.
