The Journey

Trans South American

Do you want to really take off with your motorcycle at the end of the world? Then you are exactly right here. We ride from Tierra del Fuego in Argentina to Cartagena in Colombia, crisscrossing the Andes from south to north. From the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Caribbean beach, we traverse the continent with its extreme contrasts. 13,800 km off-road and on-road through breathtaking landscapes, past huge glaciers and high volcanoes, we experience new adventures and ancient cultures. Historical destinations, cultural sites, and modern attractions lie on our way. Parts of the Pan Americana and sections of the Dakar Rally, which took place in South America from 2009 to 2019, mainly in the deserts of the continent, await us, just like dizzying tracks off the main roads. If you bring off-road and on-road experience as well as physical fitness and team spirit, you are just right for this adventure. Your experienced tour guide and/or co-guide is multilingual, raised in South America, and is well-versed in conducting adventure trips. Ahead of us lie 13,800 adventurous kilometers divided into two stages.

Bolivia

The diverse landscape of Bolivia ranges from the Andes to the Atacama Desert and the rainforest in the Amazon basin. Lake Titicaca is the largest lake on the continent and the border with Peru runs right through the lake. La Paz is one of the highest cities in the world and the lower you go from the Altiplano at 4,000 m into the valley, the more expensive the residential area becomes.

  • A motorcycle expedition is a longer and often adventurous journey by motorcycle. Unlike a regular motorcycle trip, which is more tourist-oriented, an expedition often focuses on exploring remote places, taking unusual routes, and overcoming challenges. See also the Wikipedia link to Expedition on this page.
  • Yes, for a motorcycle trip in South America, you generally need a valid passport and depending on your home country, you may also need a special visa for the countries you pass through on this motorcycle expedition. The OVERCROSS team is happy to assist you with formalities such as visa applications.
  • If you do not rent one of our Yamaha Tenere 700 rental bikes, we recommend a travel enduro or enduro under 1000cc. In principle, you can ride any motorcycle that you are comfortable with. The limits are usually those of the rider and not those of the motorcycle.
  • This motorcycle expedition presents various challenges to you, such as: mental strength, riding long stages, cultural differences, language barriers, technical riding challenges.
  • The road network in South America varies from well-developed highways to unpaved roads in rural areas. The main traffic arteries are usually well-maintained, but in remote areas, road conditions can be more challenging. On our motorcycle expedition, you will ride on a mix of different terrains.
  • Many tire manufacturers such as Continental, Metzeler, or Mitas produce high-quality tires for this application. Ultimately, however, the choice of tires is very individual and personal. On our motorcycles, we usually have Heidenau K60 Scout mounted, as this tire has a center rib on the rear tire from a certain size.
  • On the rental bikes from OVERCROSS, you will find an aluminum luggage box system, but you can also choose a soft luggage system.
  • We recommend installing an engine guard, crash bars, and hand guards on your motorcycle.
  • It is not necessary to have an extra gas can, as the volume of your standard tank is fully sufficient for this trip.
  • Yes, for this motorcycle trip, you need a credit card with sufficient funds/coverage and the option to withdraw cash.
  • In general, cash is always useful, but you can also withdraw money with your credit card during the trip.
  • You will receive a packing list for this motorcycle trip in the tour folder before the trip.
  • Depending on the chosen route, whether to the south or north, the shipping of the vehicle will be either to Cartagena (Colombia) or Ushuaia (Argentina). To ensure that all vehicles arrive on time before the start of the tour, shipping at least 2 months in advance is required.
