Switzerland Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, so many travelers do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. For stays longer than 90 days, an application must be submitted. The application can be made online through the website of the Swiss Embassy or consulates. It is not available upon arrival, so plan ahead!
The Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the largest and best-connected airport in Switzerland. It offers regular international flights and good train connections into the country. Alternatively, Geneva (GVA) and Basel (BSL) are good options, especially for travel to western or northern Switzerland. Check the connections and choose the best airport for your destination.
The local currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Although credit cards are widely accepted, it is advisable to carry some cash for small purchases and in rural areas. Many shops also accept debit cards. Be aware of extra fees when paying with Mastercard or Visa. ATMs are available everywhere.
In general, no vaccinations are required for entry into Switzerland, but travel insurance is strongly recommended. This should cover medical emergencies and trip cancellations. Carefully review the insurance policies. It is also advisable to have an emergency number on hand in case you need medical assistance.
Visitors from the EU do not need an international driver's license; a national driver's license is sufficient. To buy a SIM card, visit local shop providers like Swisscom or Sunrise. The cards are available in most stores and at the airport. Many providers offer prepaid options that are ideal for tourists. Don't forget to check your device for the local network frequency.
