Erlebnis-Reisen Afrika Landschaften Lebensraum Tiere

Khwai to Nata

Pack up your camp and depart at dawn with the open 4x4 safari vehicles. You will be picked up by the overlander truck in Maun. Enjoy the long drive to Maun, through Botswana's incredibly beautiful landscapes and keep your eyes peeled, as you may encounter some wildlife. Today's drive takes us past Botswana's salt pans. The Botswana salt pans are not only an impressively cool landscape, but they also have ecological significance. They provide habitat for many plant and animal species, including some rare and endangered species adapted to extreme conditions. During the rainy season, the salt pans can be flooded, creating ideal conditions for flamingos, which use the lakes to find food and breed. Zebras roam the fringes of the salt pans in search of food and water. They are adapted to dry conditions and can survive near water sources. Wildebeests, springboks, kudu, and other ungulates inhabit the savannas and open grasslands near the salt pans, looking for food like grass and other plants. Predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas are found in the dry areas, hunting ungulates. They utilize the open plains for hunting.

Erlebnis-Reisen Südafrika

Moremi Game Reserve

Today is a full-day game drive. We will spend the majority of our day on safari in the Moremi Game Reserve. Expect bumpy roads as we traverse this area in our 4x4 vehicles. The Moremi Game Reserve spans about 5,000 square kilometers and includes both dry and wet habitats. The landscape varies from floodplains, channels, lagoons, forests, and open grasslands. This creates perfect habitats for animals and plants. Wildlife here includes elephants, predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, or wild dogs, antelope species like impalas, kudus, lechwes, and pukus, buffaloes, and over 500 bird species such as African fish eagles, pelicans, storks, cranes, and many wading and water birds. Notable plant species in the Moremi Game Reserve include water lilies and fig trees, which provide shade and food for various animals and are often vital food sources for elephants and monkeys.
Erlebnis-Reisen Afrika Khwai Mokoro Delta

Khwai Conservation Area

We will be separated from our overlander truck for the next 2 days, so it's important that you pack your personal belongings before we travel to Maun. In Maun, we will have little time for repacking and storing, so take only the essentials. This morning, we rise early and set off to continue our African journey to Maun. Early risers will have the option to take a scenic flight over the delta (weather permitting). After the optional flight, you will be picked up in Maun and taken to the Khwai Conservation Area in smaller safari vehicles. That evening, our guide will prepare us for what to expect on our afternoon mokoro outing in the Okavango Delta and our game drive in Khwai. The Okavango Delta is one of the largest inland deltas in the world and is an interesting ecological area home to an incredible variety of habitats and animal species.
Erlebnis-Reisen Afrika Kalahari Orapa Wildlife

Maun to Palapye

Today we make our way north through the harsh landscapes of the central Kalahari Desert to the gateway of the Okavango Delta. On the way, you will pass through several smaller towns and villages, giving us a glimpse of daily life in Botswana. One of the cool attractions along our route is the Orapa diamond mine. The Orapa diamond mine is one of the largest diamond mines in the world and was discovered in the 1960s, becoming a significant source of high-quality diamonds since then. We continue on, passing by the southern end of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. Keep an eye out for wildlife between the waterholes, as a variety of wildlife could encounter you here, such as elephants, zebras, wildebeests, lions, cheetahs, and many bird species.

Johannesburg

Today marks the end of an unforgettable journey full of experiences and adventures in southern Africa. After breakfast, we take the highway to Johannesburg, where we will arrive in the afternoon. Here, the journey ends.
