Rushing streams, mysterious landscapes, challenging off-road trails and hospitable people await you on this 4x4 off-road trip as well as camping under the starry sky and shared meals by the campfire. The original beauty of this area offers unique nature experiences. A 4x4 journey for experienced off-roaders, whose difficulty can increase dramatically depending on the weather.
On our camping trip through the Carpathians with the 4x4 off-road vehicle, there are no limits. This tour clearly focuses on 4x4 off-road fun, the landscape, and the nature. Experience Romania up close, with its hospitable residents and the legendary landscape.
In the evening, we relax after the strenuous tour by a warming campfire and listen to the bubbling of the stream. When the smell of coffee wafts through the camp, we forget any fatigue and enjoy a hearty piece of steak. Your help is needed with the daily camp tasks, such as collecting firewood.
We spend 4 nights in a tent in wild open nature, and depending on the weather conditions, we will decide on-site where our camping destination will be the next day. In between, we will also spend 1 night in a guesthouse, which is included in the travel price.
Nowhere else in Western and Central Europe is there such a large contiguous forest area as in Romania. The incomparable Carpathian forests with their astonishingly crystal-clear mineral springs are not only home to over a third of all European wolves, bears, and lynxes. They are also the last areas that still offer substantial real primeval forests.

Daily program: Camping adventures in the forests and mountains of the Carpathians
Day 1: Arrival Day
Our meeting point is a charming, quaint guesthouse in the gentle hills of the Carpathians, not far from the picturesque village of Sibiel near Sibiu, where time ticks a little slower. After check-in, you can expect a warm welcome in a family atmosphere - a place where hospitality is a priority. To kick off the adventure, there will be a shared dinner with authentic, traditional Romanian cuisine: freshly baked bread, spicy Sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), creamy polenta with Brânză (sheep cheese), and of course a glass of homemade Țuică (plum schnapps) to toast. In a friendly gathering, you will meet the group - with stories, laughter, and the first hint of adventure in the air.
Day 2: From the asphalt to the off-road tracks
The first day of the tour starts relaxed around 10 AM (as it will on the following days). But before we get going, we immerse ourselves in the colorful hustle and bustle of a traditional Romanian weekly market. Among fragrant fruits, homemade cheese, fresh vegetables, and handmade treats, we stock up on our last supplies - and experience an authentic cultural moment. Shortly after, we leave the paved roads and follow lonely paths along a crystal-clear, rushing stream - the perfect start to our off-road adventure. In no time, we leave civilization behind and reach the first foothills of the wildly romantic Cindrel Mountains. Nature shows itself in its rough, untamed side: dense forests, spectacular views, and thrilling passages where our off-road vehicles can show what they're made of. A true adventure kick with a high adrenaline and freedom factor!
Day 3: Cindrel Mountains
Today everything revolves around nature, freedom, and real off-road feeling. We spend the whole day in the breathtaking Cindrel Mountains, far away from civilization. Over lonely tracks, bumpy forest paths, and hidden trails, we wind through a landscape that feels as if time has stopped. Along the way, we encounter shepherds with their flocks of sheep, traveling amidst the vast mountain landscape: an authentic picture that immerses us directly in the traditional life of the region. At numerous points, incredible panoramic views open up, breathtaking us: endless forests, gentle hills, and rugged mountain slopes in the play of light and shadow. Perfect for pausing, enjoying the silence - and of course for a few unforgettable photos.
Day 4: Western Carpathians
Today marks a change of scenery: We say goodbye to the Cindrel Mountains and embark on a new chapter of our 4x4 adventure. After a short, relaxing asphalt stage, we dive into the impressive world of the Western Carpathians, also known as the mysterious Muntii Apuseni. The landscape changes. It becomes rougher, wilder, fascinatingly different. We traverse the Transylvanian Erzgebirge, where wide valleys, dense forests, and dramatic rock formations come together to create a backdrop like something out of a movie. Time and again, the spectacular views force us to stop and marvel. A true highlight of the day: the route along the narrow, winding paths at Gemsenstein - a place that truly lives up to its name. With a bit of luck, we might even spot the namesake of this area - wild chamois frolicking on the steep slopes.
Day 5: Land of the Moți
Today we venture deep into the land of the Moți - as the inhabitants of this secluded region of the Western Carpathians have been called for centuries. The route takes us through a landscape full of myths, wild nature, and hidden treasures. A special highlight: We undertake a small, but spectacular hike through a narrow canyon, where a cool and crystal-clear stream winds its way through steep rock faces. The scenery feels like it's from another world: rugged, untouched, and simply magical. As the day progresses, a cultural highlight awaits us: the visit of a medieval monastery from the 13th century, which nestles quietly and gracefully into the landscape - a place of peace and history, perfect for a moment of reflection. Our stage destination lies at the foot of the "Sleeping Giant", an impressive mountain massif that lives up to its name with its shape. There we set up our camp and enjoy the evening atmosphere amidst the majestic nature.
Day 6: Final Day
To conclude our off-road SUV journey, we are once again greeted by true highlights: We cross the Western Carpathians on stunning high-altitude trails that reward us with enchanting landscapes and spectacular panoramic views. Every kilometer feels like a postcard motif. The route takes us over charming off-road tracks, through lonely forests, and across wide mountain ridges, where one can literally feel the freedom. One last time, we enjoy pure driving pleasure amidst unspoiled nature, with the wind in our face and the feeling of being close to the soul of this country. When reflecting on the past days, we are filled with a deep sense of gratitude: We have experienced Romania up close - with all its authenticity, its hospitable people, centuries-old traditions, and the breathtaking diversity of its legendary landscapes.
