Daily program: The Land of Eagles
Day 1: Arrival
The starting point of our 4x4 off-road trip through Albania is a beautiful campsite by the Shkodra Lake, not far from the town of Shkodra. Here begins our off-road tour through the Balkans of Southeastern Europe.
Day 2
The first highlight is the National Park Theth, an idyllic village in the Shkodra region in the north of Albania, is secluded in the impressive peaks of the Shala mountains and is hardly accessible in winter during heavy snowfall.
Day 3
After breakfast with plenty of coffee, we set off, re-energized, on our off-road adventure. Along the way, we discover and admire the countless natural wonders that Albania has to offer, including the impressive Shala Gorge.
Day 4
The Koman Lake, a reservoir of the Drin River in northern Albania, is surrounded by steep rocky walls, densely wooded hills, and deep gorges. The roughly three-hour ferry ride offers stunning views of the surrounding nature. After leaving the ferry, we continue our 4x4 off-road journey and reach the next campsite in the late afternoon.
Day 5
The Lura Lakes, a collection of glacial lakes, are located in the eastern Lura Mountains, within the Lura National Park. These lakes are known for their extraordinary colors, which range from azure blue to green to gray tones. On our route today, we will drive on remote, unpaved roads and lonely off-road trails through the mountains between Lura and Diber.
Day 6
Our adventurous 4x4 tour in Albania is a mix of off-road routes on remote gravel roads connecting mountain villages and short asphalt sections. Again and again, we reach high peaks and overcome challenging stretches. We will spend the night in nature, often by a river or a mountain lake.
In the small town Gramsh a hotel overnight stay awaits us before we start our next tour. It will take us through a largely dry riverbed that is about 34km long, up to Mount Tomorr, which is 2,464m high. Stunning views and exciting off-road trails await us here.
Day 7
Our route continues over Berat and Corovoda to the breathtaking Osumi Canyons. These canyons are an impressive natural spectacle. In the hot springs of Përmet (medicinal thermal water) we let our souls unwind and enjoy the warm water. The fortress of Gjirokastra is also worth seeing, as it is rich in history. In addition, we visit the ancient city of Butrint, which was built by the Venetians and Illyrians.
On the last day of our Albania off-road tour, we reach our destination in the southeastern part of the country, in the region around Çorovoda or Përmet. Here we enjoy the Albanian Riviera and reflect on the impressions of the past days. Thus, our 4x4 adventure through Albania comes to an end.
