OVERVIEW
Thailand Motorcycle Tours: On-Road Adventures On Two Wheels
Introduction to On-road Motorcycle Travel through Thailand
From the Onroad Classic motorcycle tours, we have compiled the absolute highlights of Northern Thailand for you. Dreamlike roads through a fantastic landscape. Wherever possible, overnight stays in magnificent bungalow resorts and hotels. We visit waterfalls, hot springs, elephant camps, orchid farms, and handicraft businesses. Our route also includes villages of ethnic minorities, which have mostly settled in the mountainous regions of Northern Thailand from China over the past centuries. On small side roads with several passes and endless curves, we drive towards the legendary "Golden Triangle." Here, Thailand, Burma, and Laos meet. We can reach Burma on foot via a bridge. To get to Laos, we have to cross the mighty river "Mekong" in a speedboat. Every day we enjoy the fantastic cuisine of Thailand, which is among the best and most diverse in Southeast Asia.
Daily program: Northern Thailand On-Road Motorcycle Tours
Day 1: Arrival in Thailand - Chiang Mai
We will pick you up at Chiang Mai Airport (CNX) and take you to our tour hotel in the heart of the city. Depending on your arrival time, you can do some sightseeing, go shopping, or just relax at the hotel. In the evening, we will have dinner at a restaurant by the riverside. Afterwards, we will visit the famous 'night market'.
Day 2: Chiang Mai - Khun Yuam
After breakfast, we set off into the mountains. Our first stop is at an elephant camp, which can be reached by a suspension bridge over a small river. After that, we will take a winding drive to the summit of Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand (2565 m), and on a clear day the view there is spectacular. Shortly after, we will have lunch at a roadside restaurant in Doi Inthanon National Park. From there, we will then cover an elevation difference of about 2000 meters in less than 30 kilometers on a steep, extremely winding road that leads us to Khun Yuam.
Day 3: Khun Yuam - Mae Hong Son - Pai
Today we not only have pure driving pleasure but there are also several sights to see. On today's route lies a small village of the Karens (Long Neck), which we will visit with a small detour. We can also admire the largest limestone cave in Southeast Asia today. In the late afternoon we will reach Pai, which has developed into an extremely popular travel destination in recent years. After checking into our bungalow complex, we will explore the town and will surely discover some delicacies at the night market.
Day 4: Pai - Chiang Dao - Thaton
We continue our motorcycle journey on a stunning route through the mountains of Northern Thailand. Over the next 100 km, more than 750 curves await us. From Chiang Dao, we take small roads up into the mountains, which lead us along the border with Myanmar to the Doi Ankang mountain. Here we visit a royal project where exotic fruits and vegetables are grown for Thailand. A very steep road takes us back down to the plain and we spend the night in the small town of Thaton.
Day 5: Thaton - Doi Maesalong - Mae Sai
Today we are traveling on winding, small, paved roads and driving along the Burmese border. Soon we will reach the famous Doi Mae Salong, where we will visit a village of the same name high in the mountains, founded in 1962 by exiled Chinese. Seeing the Chinese style in the hills of northern Thailand will make us believe we have crossed the border into China. Even the local market is dominated by Chinese goods. Afterwards, we will arrive in Mae Sai, the border town to Myanmar, where we will first check into our city hotel. Here we have the opportunity to walk across the bridge to Myanmar and visit the local market.
Day 6: Mae Sai - Chiang Rai
After breakfast, we cruise on easily navigable roads to the so-called "Golden Triangle," which was once famous for opium production. Then we take a speedboat across the Mekong River to an island that belongs to Laos. After our little excursion across the Mekong, we will visit the Opium Museum. Now we head along a wide, well-developed road to Chiang Rai, where we will check into our city hotel. In the evening, a food market at the Night Bazaar tempts with a variety of treats.
Day 7: Chiang Rai - Nan via Road 1148
After the first short stretch of our tour today, we visit the 'White Temple', built by a famous Thai artist. Now that we have satisfied our cultural cravings, it is time for pure riding fun on our motorcycle tour. A very well-developed and winding road (in the top 10 of the most beautiful motorcycle roads in the world) through a fantastic mountain landscape with little traffic makes the heart race. Just before we check into our beautiful resort with pool in Nan, we visit a small, extraordinary temple with very old wall paintings.
Day 8: Nan - Phayao
Today we drive through national parks and along lush green rice fields towards Phayao by the lake. On fantastically developed roads, we reach Phayao. Lunch is served in a local restaurant. After checking into our hotel, right by the lake, we take a small boat ride to a Buddha island, where we can familiarize ourselves a bit with the rituals of the Buddhists.
Day 9: Phayao - Chiang Mai
On our route today, there is a beautiful waterfall after a few kilometers where we will make a stop before heading back to Chiang Mai on winding roads. We will reach Chiang Mai in the early afternoon. There will be time to relax at the hotel or for a soothing massage. In the evening, we will conclude our motorcycle tour with a shared meal.
Day 10: Chiang Mai - Return flight
Today our Thailand motorcycle adventure ends and you will be taken to the airport. However, anyone who wants to stay longer in Thailand or Asia can, for example, extend their stay at the beach. We are happy to help with the planning!
