This unforgettable motorcycle tour through Namibia takes you through the breathtaking landscape of Kaokoland, where adventure, culture, and nature meet. From the arrival in Windhoek to the return, we offer a journey that will be an unforgettable experience not only for motorcycle lovers but also for explorers and nature enthusiasts. Each day is filled with explorations, cultural encounters, and a variety of activities that bring you closer to the beauty of Namibia. You will discover the fascinating Khowarib canyons, learn about the cultural treasures of the Himba and Herero peoples, and experience the majestic Epupa waterfalls. This tour promises a perfect mixture of thrilling rides, relaxing breaks, and unique encounters with Namibian wildlife and nature.
Daily program: Kaokoland for Enduro riders
Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek
You will be picked up at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek and have a 45-kilometer transfer to Windhoek. Here we will stroll through the colorful hustle and bustle and familiarize ourselves with the African mentality, complete formalities, and make purchases such as currency exchange, SIM cards, sun and insect protection, and buy biltong (dried meat) or similar for the road, as the next day we will head into the Namib Desert. Accommodation: Lodge / Camping
Day 2: Journey to Kamanjab:
Transfer to Kamanjab on a comfortable bus to avoid the long drive to Kaokoland. Breaks in Otjiwarongo and Outjo. In the afternoon, pickup of motorcycles. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 3: Adventure in the Khowarib Gorge
Today will be exciting and challenging. We will ride through a small dry riverbed into the impressive Khowarib Gorge. Keeping a distance is important as it can get dusty due to Fech-Fech. We can wash off the dust in the water that suddenly emerges from the dry riverbed.
Day 4: Cultural Encounters and Arrival in Opuwo
Drive through Himba and Herero settlements, opportunity for brief conversations. The goal is the town of Opuwo, where we will experience the African hustle and bustle before plunging into the solitude of Kaokoland. The campsite offers a breathtaking view over the bush landscape. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 5: Visit to the Epupa Waterfalls
Drive to the Kunene border river between Namibia and Angola. Overnight stay at the impressive Epupa Waterfalls. Afternoon for swimming, relaxing, or mingling with the locals. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 6: Challenge of van Zyl's Pass
Return drive towards Opuwo, then turn off to the infamous van Zyl's Pass. Rocky passages through Mopane tree landscape. Unforgettable view from the pass into the desert landscape. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 7: Through the Marien River to Kunene
Across the plain of the dry Marien River to the Kunene border river. The Marien River offers a sandy section as opposed to yesterday's rocky mountain stage. Swimming in the river is not possible due to crocodiles. In the afternoon we leave the Kunene River and spend the night in the wild Kaokoland. Day 8: From Orupembe to Purros
A day full of surprises with changing landscapes. After Orupembe, a challenging stage through two dry riverbeds to Purros. Opportunity to discover Namibia's desert elephants. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 9: Crossing the Hoanib River
Varied stage with water crossings in the riverbed. Mars-like plain to the Hoanib River. Elephant watching. Refuel in Sesfontein and visit the restored colonial fort. Continue to Warmquelle with a refreshment in the natural pool. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 10: Return to Kamanjab
Departure through animal-rich plains and riverbeds on jeep tracks until reaching the gravel road to Kamanjab. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 11: Return to Windhoek
Loading the motorcycles and transfer to Windhoek. Opportunity for a two-day side trip to the famous Etosha National Park. Accommodation: Guesthouse / Camping, Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 12: Departure or extension holiday:
Today either the extension holiday or the transfer to the airport is on schedule. Due to the varying departure times, we cannot undertake the transfer, but we are happy to organize it. Extension holidays can be organized by OVERCROSS!
