India Motorcycle Trips Trans-Himalaya Adventure
These Trans Himalaya motorcycle tours combine adventure and culture in a wonderful way. We travel through the valleys of the West Himalayas, mainly Ladakh and Zanskar Valley. The Kangra Valley is the starting point of our motorcycle journey, located at the foot of the Himalayas with a fantastic view of the Dhauladhar mountains. We fly to Delhi and then take a train to Amb-Paragpur. The first day serves to acclimatize to India; after resting in a beautiful charming guesthouse, we visit Paragpur, a village with a lot of Indian flair. The motorcycle tour begins with a short warm-up ride in the Kangra Valley to Bir Billing. From Bir, the journey goes to the Kullu Valley, across a small pass and dense foggy forests. We spend another night in the Green Himalaya in Naggar. The very next day we go through the mighty Rohtang Tunnel into the semi-arid Lahaul Valley. The Rohtang Pass has always been considered a neuralgic point between the green, densely forested Himalayas and the barren Tibetan Plateau. It represents both a watershed and a cultural boundary. A long but unforgettable day of driving awaits us from Keylong to Padum. We set off early because today marks our first 5000-meter ascent on the program. In Padum, we spend two nights at 3660m, which also helps with our acclimatization. The Zanskar Valley offers us unique moods, and the color spectacles along the way are superlative. A special highlight is the Nun Kun massif with its 7000 meters, which we can admire from up close. We are finally in Padum, a small trade passage town and the capital of Zanskar. Here we rest for two nights. A trip to Karsha and Zangla, the former royal residence of Zanskar, is planned. A visit to a local family provides us with deeper insights into the daily lives of the people. But the adventure has really just begun: The new cross-connection from Zanskar to Ladakh. We set off very early to have enough time for all the eventualities that await us on this route, e.g., water crossings. Twice we drive over 5000 meters to arrive in the small village of Lamayuro in the evening. From Lamayuro, our route again follows a small side road - fortunately still a hidden gem - to Hemis Supachen and then to Alchi. Here we visit the UNESCO monastery of Alchi. The next days we spend around Leh rather leisurely and enjoy the city with its international flair. We recommend a rest day! The next stage of our journey redefines the term superlative. First, we drive along the famous Himalaya Leh-Manali Highway, and fortunately, we are acclimatized because now we spend two days in the mystical highlands, past 5000-meter peaks, mountain lakes, and countless geological formations. Until we get to the Green Himalaya, we have something very special on the program. We leave the tourist streams of the highway at Keylong and take a lonely road that puts everything the Himalayas have to offer in the shadow. We go over the Pangi Valley to Sural and back over the mighty Sach Pass to Chamba. We end the journey in a cozy resort in Dharamshala and can even fly directly to Delhi on the last day, where the connection to Europe is also not far away.
