Days 1–13

Travel Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania

Upon arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania, you will meet the driver from Twiga Lodge. He will pick you up and drive you directly to the lodge, where you will spend your first night in Tanzania. Twiga Lodge is located about 30-40 minutes from the airport and right on the edge of Arusha National Park.

Travel Day 2: Arusha National Park

After hopefully a restful first night in Tanzania, you will have an early morning breakfast at the lodge. To ensure that nothing goes wrong during your adventure, we will provide you with detailed information about your Land Rover Defender and the equipment after breakfast. Your self-drive safari with the Land Rover Defender can officially begin! First, you will take a short drive to Arusha National Park. You will spend the next night at a campsite in Arusha National Park. Since very few travelers stay in the park, it is possible that you will be alone at the campsite. We will provide you with a picnic for the first lunch.

Travel Day 3: Tarangire National Park

The next morning, you will pack up your camp and continue to Tarangire National Park, where you will spend the next two nights. You will drive about 2-3 hours to the park. Tarangire National Park is pretty much what the landscape ideas of Africa correspond to. Endless flat savanna landscapes, hilly bushland, and the vast wildlife population offer a sense of space and wilderness in one. A special feature of Tarangire National Park is the large elephant population, which is one of the largest in Tanzania. Tarangire gets its name from the Tarangire River, which winds its way from north to south through the entire park.

Travel Day 4: Tarangire National Park

You have the entire day to explore Tarangire National Park. You will spend tonight at the same campsite as the last night.

Travel Day 5: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After a final game drive in the morning at Tarangire National Park, your safari continues today to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will spend the next two nights. As you drive up to the crater rim, you will catch your first glimpses of the mighty Ngorongoro Crater. You will spend your first night in one of the lodges that is ideally located on the edge of the road that leads into the crater.

Travel Day 6: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Since your accommodation is ideally located on the edge of the crater, you can start your day very early to go on your first game drive. You can enter the crater starting at 6:30 AM. We really hope you will see the “Big 5” and have the crater all to yourself for a few hours.

Travel Day 7: Serengeti National Park

Today your safari journey continues to Serengeti National Park. As you drive down to the plains, you will pass through “Naabi Hill” until you finally arrive in Seronera, the center of the Serengeti. Here you will spend the next nights at a campsite.
