GOOD TO KNOW

El Salvador Travel and Vacation – Good to know

As a rule, most tourists from Europe or the USA do not need a visa for a stay of up to 90 days. The entry process usually takes place at the airport. Information on VISAs is available on official websites. Please note that requirements may change, so it's best to check in advance.
The best airport is the International Airport Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero in San Salvador. Most international flights land there, and the airport offers good connections. It is located about 50 km from the capital, which allows for a perfect starting point for a motorcycle trip.
The local currency is the USD (US Dollar), as El Salvador has adopted the dollar as its official means of payment. Credit cards are accepted in many restaurants and stores, but it is advisable to have cash on hand for smaller amounts. Cash can be easily withdrawn from ATMs, but be aware of fees.
No specific vaccinations are required for entry, but hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever are recommended. A travel insurance is advisable to protect against unexpected medical costs. Consult your doctor about required vaccinations before your trip.
For the ride with the motorcycle you need an international driver's license. This is important to avoid possible problems with the police. SIM cards are available in stores (e.g. Claro or Tigo). Telecom providers often offer prepaid options, an easy way to stay in touch during your stay.
