South Africa & Botswana

This south africa botswana zimbabwe tour begins in Johannesburg and crosses into Botswana, covering the Kalahari, Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park before heading to Zimbabwe.

Days 1–7

Johannesburg – Palapye

Your south africa safari tour begins as the group departs Johannesburg and crosses the border into Botswana. After completing border formalities, the overland truck follows the Trans-Kalahari Highway — an important trade and travel corridor linking South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia — to the overnight stop in Palapye. Included meals: Lunch, Dinner.

Palapye – Maun via Kalahari

After breakfast, the route crosses the Central Kalahari Desert, one of the largest conservation areas in the world. Small towns and villages along the way offer a glimpse of daily life in rural Botswana. The Orapa diamond mine — one of the largest in the world and a joint venture between De Beers and the Botswana government — marks a notable landmark before skirting the Makgadikgadi Pans. The day ends in Maun, gateway to the okavango delta safari. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Okavango Delta – Khwai

The okavango delta safari begins today as the group transfers from Maun into the Khwai Conservation Area — a community-managed reserve on the edge of the delta that limits visitor numbers to protect its ecosystem. The delta holds four of the Big Five, crocodiles, hippos and over 400 bird species. An afternoon game drive introduces the terrain before camp. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Moremi Game Reserve

A full day in the Moremi Game Reserve — 5,000 sq km of protected wetlands, grasslands, forests and savanna in the northeastern Okavango Delta. The reserve works with NGOs on anti-poaching and biodiversity projects funded in part by tourism revenue. Expect the Big Five safari south africa checklist to grow here: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhino all roam Moremi. The group returns to Khwai camp for dinner. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Khwai – Nata Salt Pans

After breakfast the group rejoins the overland truck in Maun and drives east toward Nata. The Nata salt pans stretch over hundreds of square kilometers and form one of the largest salt flats in the world. During the dry season the surface shows a white salt crust; in the wet season it fills with shallow water attracting flamingos and other waterbirds. Springbok are common sightings along this stretch. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Chobe National Park

The chobe national park tour begins after breakfast in Nata. Chobe covers nearly 12,000 sq km and is home to an estimated 50,000 elephants — the highest concentration in Africa. Dense forests, river floodplains and open savanna create varied habitat for lion, leopard, buffalo and hundreds of bird species. After lunch, a river safari on the Chobe River brings the group close to elephants, hippos and crocodiles at the water's edge. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Chobe – Victoria Falls

Departing Chobe, the botswana safari route crosses into Zimbabwe and arrives at Victoria Falls — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest waterfalls in the world. The falls produce a mist cloud rising up to 400 meters, visible from a distance. First reached by European explorer David Livingstone in the 19th century, they remain one of Africa's most visited natural landmarks. The afternoon and evening are free to explore the town and falls at your own pace. Optional activities: falls visit, Zambezi sunset cruise, bungee jump, helicopter flight, white-water rafting. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch.

Victoria Falls – Francistown

After breakfast the group recrosses the border from Zimbabwe back into Botswana and drives south to Francistown, the country's second-largest city. The city sits at a historical crossroads and combines colonial-era architecture with a lively commercial centre. An early dinner gives the group time to rest before the long drive south the following morning. Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner.

South Africa – Kruger National Park

The kruger national park safari covers three full days in the largest national park in Africa, finishing with the scenic Panorama Route before returning to Johannesburg.

Days 10–14

Francistown – Johannesburg

An early start brings the group back across the border into South Africa and south to Johannesburg by late afternoon, completing the Botswana loop of this africa overland safari. Johannesburg — known locally as Joburg — is South Africa's largest city and the economic hub of the continent. The evening is free before the Kruger leg begins. Included meals: Breakfast.

Johannesburg – Kruger National Park

The kruger national park safari begins today. Departing Johannesburg east through Mpumalanga province — a major coal-producing region — the group arrives at Greater Kruger National Park. Note that on Days 11 and 14 a shuttle transfer may be used to connect with the overland truck inside the park; if your departure includes this, you will be notified in advance. The evening game briefing sets expectations for the days ahead. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Kruger National Park – Full Day

A full day of game drives across the 19,485 sq km of Kruger National Park — Africa's largest national park and one of the premier big five safari south africa destinations on the continent. With 147 mammal species, 500 bird species and 100 reptile species recorded here, every drive through open savanna and riverine forest brings new sightings. Lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and white rhino are all regularly encountered. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Panorama Route

Today follows the scenic Panorama Route through Mpumalanga, one of South Africa's most dramatic drives. Stops include God's Window — a clifftop viewpoint over lush escarpment forest — Bourke's Luck Potholes, a series of cylindrical rock formations carved by millennia of water erosion, and the Three Rondavels, three massive rock formations rising above the Blyde River Canyon. This is one of the most rewarding days of the full kruger national park tour. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Kruger – Johannesburg, Departure

The final morning begins with one last game drive in Kruger National Park before the group drives back to Johannesburg, arriving in the late afternoon. This concludes the 14-day southern africa safari tour covering South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. For those flying home, an overnight near OR Tambo International Airport is recommended. The tour officially ends on arrival in Johannesburg. Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
