Introduction to the South America Motorcycle Expedition
Do you want to really take off with your motorcycle at the end of the world? Then you are exactly right here. We ride from Tierra del Fuego in Argentina to Cartagena in Colombia, crisscrossing the Andes from south to north. From the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Caribbean beach, we traverse the continent with its extreme contrasts. 13,800 km off-road and on-road through breathtaking landscapes, past huge glaciers and high volcanoes, we experience new adventures and ancient cultures. Historical destinations, cultural sites, and modern attractions lie on our way. Parts of the Pan Americana and sections of the Dakar Rally, which took place in South America from 2009 to 2019, mainly in the deserts of the continent, await us, just like dizzying tracks off the main roads. If you bring off-road and on-road experience as well as physical fitness and team spirit, you are just right for this adventure. Your experienced tour guide and/or co-guide is multilingual, raised in South America, and is well-versed in conducting adventure trips. Ahead of us lie 13,800 adventurous kilometers divided into two stages.
Daily program: Trans South American
Stage 1: Ducks and Pampa Motorcycle Adventure
Four weeks and 7,000 km through Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia, from Ushuaia to La Paz, first 1,400 km in Argentina over the Andes to Puerto Montt in Chile. There, up the Carretera Austral and back over the Andes to Mendoza, from there through the Argentine Pampa following the traces of the Dakar over Chilecito to Salta, another 2,300 km in Argentina before we reach the Uyuni salt flat in Bolivia and travel over Oruro to La Paz.
Stage 2: Pure Enduro Journey: The Inca Trail
Four weeks and about 6,800 km from La Paz in Bolivia past Lake Titicaca to Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, from Lima over Quito to Cartagena on the Caribbean.
Bolivia
The diverse landscape of Bolivia ranges from the Andes to the Atacama Desert and the rainforest in the Amazon basin. Lake Titicaca is the largest lake on the continent and the border with Peru runs right through the lake. La Paz is one of the highest cities in the world and the lower you go from the Altiplano at 4,000 m into the valley, the more expensive the residential area becomes.
Peru
In Peru, we experience breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and excellent local cuisine. Peru is located just below the equator. We leave Lake Titicaca heading southwest toward Arequipa, also known as the white city. Halfway to Trujillo, we leave the coast and head up the Western Andes to Huaraz.
Ecuador
Ecuador has Quito, at 2,850 m the highest capital in the world with an intact center from the Spanish colonial period, and is among the countries with the highest biodiversity. On adventurous trails with endless curves, after crossing the border through Podocarpus National Park, we travel through the Ecuadorian Andes to Cuenca.
Colombia
Colombia has made negative headlines for years due to drug wars and guerrilla fights. In the meantime, visitors and Colombians can peacefully travel and explore this beautiful country. A country with diverse landscapes, whose inhabitants are incredibly hospitable.
