OVERVIEW
Offroad motorcycle trip through Sardinia - Italy
This Sardinia off-road motorcycle trip captivates with its contrasts: On one side, the famous Costa Smeralda, with turquoise water, dreamily beautiful bays, and plenty of luxury yachts, on the other side, rugged mountains and remote forests. Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean and at the same time one of the least populated regions in Europe. We explore the interior of the island on winding secondary roads. We cross the Gennargentu massif, use gravel paths in the mountains, drive along stunning coastal roads, and try our hand at sandy paths. We discover historical Nuraghes, mountain villages, and the UNESCO World Heritage site of the island. Numerous cafes repeatedly compel us to have coffee and cornetto. Sunshine and relaxation can be found on white sandy beaches, well-chilled beer after tiring hours in the saddle, and during a cozy dinner.
This tour is an adventurous round trip of the island where we often leave the well-known paths and break new ground. We do not claim that everything is perfectly planned and sometimes take routes we do not know yet. Additionally, there may be passages that are periodically closed or impassable. The following itinerary is to be seen as a travel suggestion and will certainly be conducted differently and potentially more exciting.
On this guided enduro tour, you have the option to either fly to Olbia, and we take your motorcycle or rental bike on the trailer, or you can travel independently and meet us at the port of Genoa.
Introduction to the Sardinia motorcycle trip
Our meeting point is the harbor in Genoa, from where we will cross over to Olbia on the night ferry. For those arriving by plane, they will arrive that day and meet us the next morning at the hotel. The rest of us will use the evening on the ferry to get to know each other a bit over a cold beer and to prepare for the upcoming adventure.
Daily program: An Enduro off-road adventure through Sardinia
Day 1: Arrival from Genoa or Arrival at Olbia Airport
Our meeting point is the port in Genoa, from where we will cross to Olbia on the overnight ferry. For those arriving by plane, they will arrive that day and meet us the next morning at the hotel. The rest of us will use the evening on the ferry to get to know each other a little over a cold beer and get into the mood for the upcoming adventure.
Day 2: Arrival in Sardinia
In the morning, the ferry arrives in Olbia, and after arrival, we go directly to the hotel to meet the other participants. After a first coffee and a short meeting in which we go through the upcoming stages and highlights of the tour, we will hop on our motorcycles. The first day’s stage will take us directly into the wild nature of Sardinia, past picturesque landscapes, impressive mountain ranges, and hidden paths that await true adventurers. Here our adventure begins, leading us through breathtaking off-road tracks and historic places.
Day 3: Visit to Small Mountain Villages
Today’s stage takes us to the legendary bandit village of Orgosolo, which is now especially known for its impressive murals. These fascinating wall paintings narrate with dramatic depictions the lives of the locals, the shepherds, and the bitter struggle for land. The artworks reflect the history and resistance of the region and provide a deep insight into Sardinian culture. After this cultural stop, we continue and visit Fonni, the highest village in Sardinia. Located at almost 1,000 meters above sea level, Fonni offers not only an impressive view but also an insight into the traditional life of the mountain inhabitants. This stage combines nature, history, and culture, allowing us to experience Sardinia from its most authentic side.
Day 4: Offroad Highlight
Today we will spend time in the impressive mountains of Supramonte and Gennargentu, which unfold like a huge, untouched natural paradise before us. On winding off-road trails, we ride through wild valleys and steep mountain landscapes, which reward us with breathtaking views time and again. Behind every bend awaits a new adventure – whether it's a hidden gorge, a rustic hiking trail, or a remote plateau that can only be accessed by motorcycle. These mountain ranges are among the wildest and most fascinating regions of Sardinia and provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable off-road experience.
Day 5: Relaxing by the Water or Culture
Today we take a well-deserved break and enjoy a relaxed day by the turquoise water. Whether sunbathing on one of the dreamy beaches, taking a refreshing dip in the sea, or enjoying a cozy boat trip – here we can unwind and let the coastal landscape of Sardinia work its magic on us. The famous Costa Smeralda is definitely worth a visit to marvel at the stunning view. For those interested in culture, a short detour to local attractions can be made to learn more about the history and traditions of the island. The day is all about relaxation, and everyone can decide as they wish how to enjoy the paradisiacal ambiance.
Day 6: Flumendosa Dam
The next morning we set off for the Flumendosa Dam, a true natural gem that we should not miss. The dam offers not only breathtaking views but also a perfect opportunity to enjoy the quiet beauty of the Sardinian landscape. Afterwards, we visit the prehistoric stone constructions of the Nuraghes, built around 1600 to 400 BC. These mystical structures are a fascinating testament to Sardinian history and culture. Since 1997, they have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage and provide us with a unique insight into the lives of the early Sardinians.
Day 7: Last Day
Today we ride along the spectacular west coast of Sardinia on small gravel paths, which repeatedly offer us beautiful views of the glittering sea. The route takes us further to the Sinis Peninsula, which with its wide sandy beaches and picturesque lagoons is among the most beautiful regions of the island. Especially in winter, the lagoons are a true paradise for ornithologists who can observe an impressive variety of birds here. In the evening, we finally reach Olbia again. Over one last dinner together, we will reminisce about the unforgettable experiences of the tour. Then it’s time to say goodbye – the guide and all those returning by ferry bid farewell, while the adventures of the past days will long remain etched in our memories.
Day 8: Return Journey
All those who arrived by plane will fly back home today – but the memories of this unforgettable off-road tour will last a long time. Anyone who wishes can of course extend their holiday on their own for a few more days to explore Sardinia further, relax, or experience new adventures.
