Overview of the journey through Chile and Argentina
This exciting journey takes you through Chile and Argentina! Explore Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires by bike and hike through the Chilean National Park Torres del Paine. You can also admire the Perito Moreno Glacier on this trip. You will get to know Punta Arenas and visit the famous Nao Victoria Museum there. This tour offers you plenty of time for independent hikes and activities in Patagonia. Argentina is the second-largest country in South America, covering an area of 2.8 million square kilometers and home to about 33 million inhabitants, almost half of whom live in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The country encompasses three major landscapes: the Andes in the west, the plains in the north and east, and the Patagonia plains in the south. It has three climate zones: tropical in the north, temperate in the center, and polar in the south. The population is predominantly made up of European immigrants, and the official language is Spanish. Chile, wedged between the Andes and the Pacific, is a 4,300-kilometer-long strip of coastline with a maximum width of 400 kilometers. It is known for its rich and pristine nature, including the driest desert in the world, lush forests, and glacier and fjord landscapes. The European influence is evident in the culture of its cities and its people. Chile is considered one of the most developed countries in South America, where everything works.
Daily program: Patagonia Adventure: Chile and Argentina!
Day 1: Arrival in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Included meals: none. Transfer airport/hotel. Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, transfer from the airport to the hotel. Buenos Aires – for everything and everyone, the Paris of South America will sooner or later be a stopover. Spread over the flat Pampas, on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires proudly showcases its European heritage with longing glances. The city is full of creativity, which can sometimes overshadow even a metropolis like New York. In Buenos Aires, value is placed on ceremonies and politeness. The air in Buenos Aires seduced the Spaniards, and I am more and more convinced that they called it ‘the city of good air’ because they were seduced by its scents and illusions. (Ramón Gómez de la Serna). Mid-range: Overnight at Hotel Loi Suites Esmeralda 3* or similar (1 room apartment). Comfort class: Overnight at Hotel Grand Brizo Buenos Aires 4* or similar (Comfort room).
Day 2: Buenos Aires, City Tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner. City tour in Buenos Aires with a stop at a historic café (5h). In the evening Tango show including dinner at the Tango house Viejo Almacén – on a group basis in English. Experience the birthplace of Tango up close! During your city tour, you will first visit Avenida de Mayo, which leads to the famous Plaza De Mayo. Here you will see the Casa Rosada (government seat and former fortress), the Metropolitan Cathedral (seat of the Archbishop of Buenos Aires), and the old Town Hall. You enter the Metropolitan Cathedral and admire the impressive Neoclassical architecture of the building, which is one of the most significant Catholic landmarks in the country. The mausoleum of Argentine national hero General San Martín is housed in the cathedral, and Pope Francis held his masses here when he was still Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires has a vibrant café culture that originated from the diversity of immigrants. You will find a café on almost every corner. We will stop at a traditional café, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and snacks. Then proceed to San Telmo, which was a river port until 1888. The old small houses and cobblestone streets give the district a special flair. Every Sunday, there is a very nice flea market here. Continue to the waterfront district La Boca, which has become a famous tourist attraction due to its brightly painted tin houses. Visit the famous street El Caminito. After that, visit the fashionable district Recoleta, where the cemetery of the same name is located with the tomb of Evita. Avenida 9 de Julio is considered the widest boulevard in the world at 140 meters. Here stands the famous Obelisk as well as the opera house, Teatro Colón. In the evening, you will be taken to the tango house Viejo Almacén, because a tango night is a must on any visit to the Argentine capital! The origin of tango dates back to the last century when the entire area of the Río de la Plata was flooded by European immigrants who all brought their own music. At some point, the elements of the various music genres fused together and something new was created: the tango. The first instruments of the musicians and (initially only male) dancers who moved through dance halls and streets were flutes, violins, and guitars. Later, piano and bandoneon (a type of accordion) also became established as tango instruments. At the restaurant Viejo Almacén, you will first be served dinner, and then you will go across the street to the show house, where a tango show is on the program. The artists present various forms of tango and milonga at Viejo Almacén. After the tango show, return transfer to the hotel. Note: The excursion takes place together with other travelers. The transfers from the hotel to the tango house and back are conducted as shared transfers with other travelers and a Spanish-speaking driver. The tango house has English-speaking staff.
