Visa Requirements
German citizens do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days in Sweden. For longer stays or other nationalities, it is advisable to contact the Swedish Embassy or consulate. A visa cannot be applied for upon arrival, but must be applied for online or in person, often at least 15 days before the trip.
Best Airport
The Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is the largest and best airport for international flights to Sweden. It offers excellent connections to the city with the Arlanda Express, trains, and buses. Alternatively, there are Gothenburg-Landvetter and Malmö-Sturup. Plan enough time for your journey to your destination.
Local Currency and Payment
The Swedish Krona (SEK) is the official currency. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it is also advisable to carry some cash for smaller shops or rural areas. Mobile payment options like Swish are very popular in Sweden. ATMs are available everywhere, and most shops accept credit cards.
Vaccinations and Travel Insurance
No specific vaccinations are required for entry into Sweden. However, travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover costs in case of illness or accidents. Check your existing insurance and ensure that you are fully covered, especially for medical emergencies during your trip.
Driving License Requirements
A valid driving license from your home country is sufficient for driving in Sweden, as long as it is written in Latin letters. For longer stays, an international driving license may be recommended. Note the Swedish traffic rules, especially driving on the right side of the road and strict speed controls.
Purchasing a SIM Card
In Sweden, you can easily purchase a SIM card in many stores, such as electronics stores or kiosks. Providers like Telia, Tele2 and Telenor offer various prepaid options. Make sure to unlock your device and choose a plan that fits your consumption preferences.
Transportation Options
Sweden offers excellent transportation options. In cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg, public transport networks (subway, buses, trams) are reliable. Trains connect major cities. For rural areas, long-distance buses are practical. Bicycles can be easily rented and are an eco-friendly way to explore the city. Plan your trip in advance!
