Days 1–11
Erlebnis-Reisen Afrika

Windhoek - Etosha

Transfer from the International Airport of Namibia to Windhoek's city center. Introduction to the off-road vehicles at the workshop. Departure to the Etosha pan to enjoy 'Africa pure' at the famous waterhole of Okaukuejo right on the first evening. In Etosha Park we will encounter all the animals of southern Africa: elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and, with a bit of luck, even a rhinoceros. Tomorrow will give us plenty of opportunities for this. But tonight the starry sky in its indescribable clarity - after all, Namibia is among the top 3 places in the world for sky observations according to the Max Planck Institute - is our observation field and one or another shooting star may greet us. Camping in tents. The tents and all camping equipment will be provided, but we ask participants to assist in setting up and dismantling the campsite. (450km paved road)
Offroad-Reisen Botswana Etosha Fort Namutoni Tierherden

Etosha National Park

After breakfast, our game drive through Etosha Park begins. Our accommodation for tonight is once again in the national park: Fort Namutoni. The fort served the German protection force and is today a picturesque entrance gate in the east to the park. The pan offers uninterrupted views of the herds of animals living in the park, a major advantage of the park for wildlife observation. Lunch in Halali. Camping at Fort Namutoni, which also has a waterhole with seating and provides an atmospheric scenery with African wildlife at night. (120km sandy track)
Erlebnis-Reisen Afrika

Rundu

Via Tsumeb and Grootfontein we head to Rundu at the Angolan border. The riverbank of Angola lies before us, but there is no border crossing here and so it is wonderfully dreamy to stay at the Sarasungu River Lodge with the sounds of the night. The Okavango flows here on its way to the delta and already gives us a glimpse of the magnificent natural landscape that awaits us. (360km paved road)
Offroad-Reisen Botswana Caprivizipfel Elefantenherden Zambesi

Caprivi Strip

The border at the tripoint in Katima Mulilo is our destination today. The Caprivi Strip, which could only be traversed in convoy a few years ago, now offers unspoiled nature and often elephant herds cross our path, wandering between the countries and heading to Chobe National Park. A small highlight on the way is the Popa Falls, not exactly large, but they provide us a nice resting opportunity. Tonight we will sleep on the banks of the Zambezi, one of the great African rivers and here quite peaceful and restful. Overnight at Zambezi River Lodge. (500km paved road or sandy track)
Offroad-Reisen Namibia, Etosha-Nationalpark

Victoria Falls

Over the Ngoma Bridge we drive through Zimbabwe to Zambia, from where we will visit the Victoria Falls. 'The smoke that thunders' impressed Dr. Livingstone back in the day and has lost none of its beauty since. Nestled in the tropical nature of a rainforest, the Zambezi falls 108m deep over a width of 1700m. The Victoria Falls are twice as high as Niagara Falls and the resulting spray clouds reach up to 500m high and can be seen up to 60km away. Mosi-oa-Tunya (the name given to the falls by the local people) carries varying water masses depending on the season, and they are certainly most spectacular in April after the rainy season, however, the spray formation is so strong that the falls are often not visible. Overnight at Sprayview Hotel. (130km paved road)
Offroad-Reisen Botswana Chobe Elefantenherden Camping

Botswana - Chobe National Park

Extensive visit to the falls in the morning. Afterwards, we will be heading to Chobe National Park in Botswana and the off-road tracks will become more challenging. Soft sand requires our full concentration, but the campsite in the evening rewards us with the sounds of the African night and the still fascinatingly beautiful starry sky. Chobe is world-famous for its large herds of elephants, but no worries, elephants behave extremely cautiously and camping is without danger. However, one or another may notice the footprints of the nocturnal visitors in the morning next to the tent. Camping at the edge of Chobe National Park. (150km gravel track)
