Canary Islands Motorcycle Trip: Lanzarote & Fuerteventura
Get ready for a motorcycle trip through the Canary Islands. This 7-day tour takes you across the volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. You will ride off-road tracks and on-road routes with views from the volcano to the sea.
Ride past the iconic works of César Manrique. Explore the famous cactus garden. Relax at the Ocean Eco Lodge on the coast. This tour offers you action, culture, and island vibes. It is perfect for riders who want sun and adventure in one trip.
Why Ride the Canary Islands with Overcross?
The Canary Islands are a popular spot. But mass tourism has changed the islands – and not always for the better. Package tours bring only small income to locals. We offer a different way to travel.
Motorcycle riders travel differently. On this Chillout Tour in Lanzarote, you leave the crowds behind and see the island from a fresh angle. We built this trip with our local friends in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. It focuses less on hard adventure and more on culture, relaxation, and real island life.
You stay at the Ocean Eco Lodge in the wild north of Lanzarote, just steps from the ocean. An optional 5-star upgrade is also available. The trip is an on-road tour, ideal for riders with a street bike or enduro.
Want a full island tour? Check out our other trip: Dance on the Volcano. Note: Enduro rides off-road must be guided and approved. Riding on illegal tracks leads to high fines.
Lanzarote is the northernmost Canary Island. It has a mild African desert climate and a unique landscape – perfect for motorcyclists. Flights from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland take just 3–4 hours.
Daily program: Motorcycle adventure on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
1: Arrival in Lanzarote – Welcome to Your Motorcycle Week
Sunday is the best day to arrive. Flights from most major European cities land at César Manrique Lanzarote Airport (ACE) every week. Due to different arrival times, your motorcycle tour starts the next travel day.
If you want your bike today, no problem. Take a taxi from the airport to the motorcycle garage. Joe or his partner will hand over your bike at no extra cost. Tip: Pack only a backpack for this week. Extra luggage requires a separate transport (about €30) to your lodge.
After you pick up the bike, ride to the northern part of Lanzarote. Your goal is Guatiza. This charming village is known for the Jardín de Cáctus, a creative work by the famous artist and nature activist César Manrique. In Guatiza, a gravel track leads between two volcanoes straight to the ocean. In just minutes, you reach the Ocean Eco Lodge. The roaring Atlantic waves will greet you.
César Manrique shaped Lanzarote like no one else. When you pick up your motorcycle, you will get route tips focused on Manrique and his art. He is the island itself, and you will feel this in the days ahead. Your first ride takes you along a nearly paved path to the stormy north of Lanzarote, about 30 km away.
2: In the Footsteps of César Manrique
The architecture of Lanzarote comes from one mind. César Manrique left a white mark on the black-brown volcanic mass. He created a lasting, one-of-a-kind landscape on the island. A visit to his house museum (César Manrique Foundation) helps you understand a large part of the island.
Natural attractions like caves, lagoons, and gardens – shaped by the artist – make this ride truly inspiring. Outside the door of the island’s father, the reality of illegal high-rises and hotels begins.
The north of Lanzarote is the wind spot for surfers and hang gliders. It is also the place where locals retreat when cruise ships like AIDA flood the 850-square-kilometer island with mass tourism. The north stands for art, culture, and a few great bodegas with amazing wine. You should explore every last drop.
3: On the Trail of the Devil – Volcanoes & Beaches
After a laid-back breakfast with ocean views, start your bike and cruise over solid lava rock and through strange lava shapes. Smooth asphalt lies ahead, framed by a 180-degree panorama of Femés, a small mountain village.
Today you can check off the tourist highlights: Papagayo beaches, Janubio salt flats, the green golf lagoon, the fire mountain, or the Gería vineyards. Or ride to Caleta de Famara beach to surf, enjoy the sea, or take a submarine to explore the underwater world.
One hour before sunset, ride through a lava sea on the way to Timanfaya National Park. At the best photo hour, it feels like a motorcycle ride on the moon.
4: Ferry to La Graciosa – The Hidden Island
After about 30 km, you reach the ferry to La Graciosa. It is the smallest island in the Canary archipelago. Here you can cross the island by Defender or simply walk along the coast and enjoy the silence.
The view from this Canarian “Robinson Crusoe island” is stunning. On the other side rises the Risco of Lanzarote – a natural wall that climbers dream of. Your goal: the top?
Back in Puerto Orzola, cruise on small side roads to Mirador del Río. This viewpoint is a well-known filming location from the series Tim Taler. The view over La Graciosa and the endless ocean takes your breath away.
5: Road Trip Through Los Volcanes National Park
Today, take on the calm pace of the locals. Ride across scenic roads through Lanzarote and Los Volcanes National Park. Stop at the Bodega El Grifo and visit local craftsmen on the island. You can still shop here without finding mugs “Made in China.”
The local art and craft scene shows up at markets like the one in Teguise. The final kilometers wind along truly amazing roads – because the best always comes last.
At sunset, reach Erika’s little pizzeria in Guatiza. The arrabiata is legendary, and the local wine flows fast. The last stretch home might be a wobbly one – or a short ride in the village taxi. Buenas noches!
6: Ferry from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura
Ride along the Atlantic coast to the ferry port at Playa Blanca. Your ferry ticket is ready. Half an hour later, the Marítimas Romero ferry takes you from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura.
With a café cortado largo, look back at Lanzarote – the first island in the world named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993. The ferry crosses the roughly 12-km-wide La Bocayna strait to reach Fuerteventura, the second-largest island of the archipelago.
From Puerto de Corralejo, ride on well-built roads through the island’s small deserts and across volcanic passes. These passes were named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009 and a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve in 2015.
7: Motorcycle Day in Fuerteventura – Final Ride
Today’s schedule depends on your flight time from Lanzarote Airport (ACE). You will usually have plenty of time to ride from your lodge to Puerto de Corralejo.
At the Fuerteventura port, stop at our favorite bakery or enjoy the treats at the harbor cafés. Don’t pack the day too full. Enjoy the warm breeze by the sea and the last hours of your holiday.
Depending on your return flight, ferries to Lanzarote run hourly from 7:00 to 20:00. Be on the ferry three hours before your flight so you can drop off the rental bike at the workshop on time. From there, you will be driven to the airport.
8: Extension Day – Extra Time in Lanzarote
You have the option to add a day before or after your motorcycle trip. Simply select the “Extension” upgrade when you book. In the comment field, let us know if you want your extra chill-out day before or after the tour.
